Elf On A Shelf
...
Hallowe'en 2007 - the day my beautiful Kyle came home from racing. He had slipped the tendon off of his hock and retired. There was no where else in the world he was going to go as he was quirky but he was bloomin good fun!
Box rest and R&R were ahead of me and in April 2008 I sat on Kyle again for the first time since the previous October. It wasn't as eventful as I was expecting! A few humps and that was him, I fully expected a big rodeo show! But no, Smiley Kylie likes to prove people wrong!
We spent the rest of summer gradually doing more work, slow and steady and Kyle was loving his new life as an honourary native! In the August I took him to his first show in-hand - if I had attempted to ride him 1 of 2 things would have happened:1. I would have been ditched before my bum hit the saddle 2. We would have been going flat to the mats across the show field before my bum hit the saddle! Being on his toes would have been an major understatement on Kyle's part! He danced and pranced his way round the ring to an unsurprising 6th place! The judge loved him but his behaviour deserved nothing better lol! Plus no one noticed his technical lameness as he didn't keep his feet in the right gears and his trot was super exended! He looked superb! And he had a ball!
Kyle did 1 more show the following year where he came 2nd before retiring as a field companion as shows were just too exciting and he wasn't keen on being ridden anymore, he never was when he didn't want to be lol! For the next 5 years he lived like a native, got hairy, got fat, loved life and lived for oranges.
At 9.45am on September 17th I said goodbye to one of the best friends I have ever had. I'd gone up to check on the boys and found him with a 5-6in gash on his pastern. The vet was promptly called and he was taken along to the surgery. Kyle had stood on himself and Kyle being Kyle didn't do things by half! He had gone through the extensor tendon and down into the coffin joint. There were no options. I held my precious little friend as I said Goodbye.
I hope your causing merry hell up there my gorgeous wee pony! You were one of the best friends anyone could ever have had x
