70 or 80? WWYD?

I am at Eland too on Sunday. The girls are doing the pairs.
Re the corner: it is tiny so just treat it like an oxer and stay near the middle. It rides absolutely fine and most ponies ping it without any bother.

Are you doing the 80 then? If so don't worry about the drop fence. That also rides really nicely - it is a lot scarier jumping up it than down it! It looks nice and inviting from the jumping side.

The whale freaks out quite a few so that's a good one to miss! I prefer the 80 course than the 70 at Eland.

I am not sure where the route off the Horseware Island goes this year but normally you can jump up and then turn and pop off down a steep ramp instead of jumping off over a ditch. If your horse has an issue with ditches that might save you a stop or step back.

Good luck!

Thanks guys. Yes doing the 80. I’m not bothered about the drop or the bank. Well she jumped huge off the bank but I’m confident she will come off it. Was more worried about the whale!

So you're doing the 80? I did a couple of the 80 jumps out schooling on Friday and they jump nicely 😊

Oh good planning!! I had hoped to go and school around the course but then read the rules that you can't do it in the 7 days before the competition so I was too late 😄 At least I know for next time to get my life sorted and go more than a week before. I have no idea what my lad is going to think about that whale!!

Hope you have fun

I would have done the 70 for confidence and experience, and already have practiced corners at home etc if you are wanting to sell/ compete.
I am not sure why you wouldn't have practiced that before entering.
Depending on how they do, I would possibly stay at that for part of the season because each course will have something they won't have seen. There isn't a rush to go up the heights on the first few outings.

My back isn’t good from my fall so I’m not sure I’ll be doing either at this rate!😫

I don’t think the 70 would be any more confidence giving tbh I think she will feel more at home with a more solid looking proper jump than the little whale etc. Let’s see! Maybe I will regret it!

The first year the whale appeared it had more eliminations there than any other fence! It just freaks them out even though it's tiny. I remember Max doing a snorting giraffe impression on the approach to it even though he popped the 90 fences no bother!

Well we did the 80, she was a star! Just one green stop at the boat coming out of the water but otherwise she was fantastic. 💗💗 jumped the corner beautifully. So really pleased. She was an angel as well behaviour wise, she’s only been to a couple of small shows and XC schooling once! Proud mummy.😃

Well done! We had a stop at fence two (annoying as I'd gone over it a few times out schooling and was very determined, he was just distracted by the camera man!) But otherwise I was so pleased with him for his first proper hunter trial, he flew round the rest!

Buzz wasn't a fan of the cars and judges either. At the corner fence he was so busy looking at the judges/car/other horses on the course I was desperately trying to get his attention back before the jump ha ha. Jumped it but I kicked the flag off it, oops.

Glad you had a good time, i was really nervous too but enjoyed it when i got going.

Fantastic day. What a difference a day makes. We were sitting on the grass in t-shirts eating ice-creams!! Awesome Dolly led Jenny round and both jumped clear. About 40 seconds too slow but they trotted in a few places because of slippery ground. And Dolly was a little hesitant at both waters. Absolutely delighted with these 2 wonderful ponies. Dolly's first HT - and Jenny's too for all we know.

Here's a video edit of the round.

Well done Chippers and Starbucks.

Amber your girls look fabulous! I would be bursting with pride! I do love Eland, it's the only place I've been that has a really grass routes /friendly but professional outlook.

Not sure what to do now with the horse. I guess I need to find a little event for her? I don't think there's much point doing a BE at the mo - we were VERY slow today lol.

What a lovely picture! Yes I am very proud of them. And Eland is my all time favourite venue. The courses are challenging but the team there are so incredibly helpful. You can carry on after elimination for experience which is great. And spectators get a great view of pretty much the whole course. And the cakes in the cafe are LUSH!

And don’t forget the great shop!

My only criticism is I’m not keen on the XC warm up, it’s really stoney my other mare is a bit footy on it.

I'm not keen on the warm up either, it's a bit too stony! At least they had smaller jumps out though, when I went for schooling they still had the BE warm up fences out, no way was I doing those!
