sec a is in with laminitis, vets said minimum 8 weeks box rest, problem is the stables are indoors and no windows and she has COPD.

anyone had to deal with laminitics with COPD as well?

Can you not make him a 12 x 12 enclosure outside somewhere using electric fencing?

If its on boxrest it would need a thick bed for support, suppose you could cover the area with bedding if you put planks around it or something

Yes my lad had both in 2009 and it was a struggle. My lad has a field stable so at least fresh air is around him. I did all the usual stuff really...dust free shavings bed that I took care not to disturb too much when mucking out...did everything by hand with rubber gloves to prevent shaking the bed about. Soaked hay at all times fed off the floor if possible...depending on how greedy they are. Went round gathering cobwebs each day - gently removing them with a long handled brush. He has his COPD supplement too in dampened chaff.
It was difficult though as he was still suffering a bit with his copd and not helped by him being very depressed and anxious in his stable, which resulted in stable walking, which was terrible for his laminitic feet and would kick up the dust too, which made him worse in his chest. In the end I had to concede and the vet instructed me to pen off an area outside his stable for him to wander in and get more fresh air and be less stressed. This really helped but not everyone can do this facilities wise.
Good luck though, I feel your pain and concern, you can only really hope to keep copd symptoms at bay and treat the laminitis and then treat the copd again when your horse is over the laminitis.

thanks xx

cant have her outside as the other horses dont respect electric fencing and will knock it down, all the stables are indoors so not much i can do with that really, cant move her to another yard till the laminitis is under control as it would stress her, plus i would have to move my lad as well, and i am being induced in 2 weeks so timing sucks lol.
