As there is naturally a lot of serious discussion on here, I thought a little bit of the unbridled enthusiasm of youth may accompany this sunny weather.

My 8 year old daughter has been obsessed with cross country and eventing, having spent all winter watching every cross country video on YouTube and building an XC course in our house (!), but never actually ridden on an XC course, until yesterday. She had a fantastic morning in the sunshine at Lincomb Equestrian Cross Country, with Croome Hunt Pony Club. As she rode over the hill on Domino, saw the course laid out in the river valley, and said "This is my dream!".

I am not quite so sure whether young Domino thought the same, he played ball though and seemed to enjoy sploshing around in the sunshine. There were some tears when we got back home, but only because she wanted to stay and carry on riding! That has got be the sign of a great day, and on her walk to school this morning she was working out how soon she can get to compete at Badminton... aim high!

She reminds me of myself & I'm nrly 40 yrs older than her, makes me smile to see a child so in love with the her pony and the sport, she's obviously a pony addict through and through :-) Good luck to her and I hope all her dreams come true x

This is where dreams begin to become reality :-) Good luck to her, I hope she realises them. Love the spotty pony too!

That little girl has been born to the saddle..I think she will have a great future ahead as she's riding for the love of it,not because she's been forced.Wonderful!

That's true, we don't come from a horsey background at all, but she started going to Tewkesbury Riding School every Saturday from when she was 4, she spent her days there helping, poo-picking, grooming etc etc. and it has steadily grown. We have never pushed her, just supported her.

We have been very fortunate to have some extremely helpful friends and neighbours who have seen her enthusiasm and offered whatever they can to make it all happen. I should also add that she is the most polite, funny, caring, hard-working 8 year old you will ever encounter, so its very hard for anybody to say no to her!

Isn't that just the sweetest thing. What a lovely post. I feel like her at times, even though I'm a tad older than 8. I hope she manages to realise all her best horsey dreams.

Aw bless her. I remember being a pony mad 8/9yo. She looks like she had loads of fun.

My 9yo son took on a rather large log on his little pony when we went out riding yesterday. Seeing the smile on his face when he jumped it was fantastic. :)

Soooo cute :). Hope my girls take to pony's, dd1 sat on Mr C the other day and didn't stop smiling so fingers crossed.

Hope your little girl gets to play on the x country again soon and Domino got extra carrots for being a star and playing nice :).

Love the look of concentration on her face and what a cute pony!

Without wishing to tread on any toes or spoil the thread it might be worth sorting out a neck strap for her for next time. When my son was small our then Pony Club DC wouldn't let any one go xc without one telling all the members if William Fox-Pitt used one so should they. Just secure it to the D ring of the saddle by a flash strap or boot lace. My now adult son will never go xc without one.

I hope she has many more fun outings like this, it's the stuff memories are made of!
