SEIB aren't an insurer. They are a broker. So your insurance/quote was never actually with them. They will have placed with the best cover available to you with an insurer. The insurer will be named somewhere on your quote. So they will have shopped around for you to a certain extent.
Oh thats a good point. It's worth calling them but I'll probably shop around first to see what i could get elsewhere.

Actually they didn't refuse me insurance but thanks for your concern.

I'm confused, you said NFU had refused you in your OP (quoted in post #2).

SEIB will be searching providers based on your history.

Insurance companies are far cleverer than people expect them to be, and they do share information.

Ignoring all the bits above, I used to be with Shearwater who are brokers. When I thought the new premium was too high, I would chat to them and get it reduced by increasing excess or changing cover, etc.

ETA to say I don’t insure now as it wasn’t worth it after he got to a certain age.

But in post #1, which you subsequently deleted but the text is preserved as another poster quoted it in post #2, you said:-

"(I would normally be with NFU but last year they wouldn't give a new policy for my new horse as I'd had so many claims through them )"

So NFU declined to insure your new horse.

Here are the SEIB terms when you approach them for a quote. They will not necessarily turn you down if you have been refused cover elsewhere, but it is relevant information that they ask you to declare.

It is also relevant to have informed them about your previous claims within the past 5 years.

'How would they know about claims for a different horse going back to 2017-19?
In that case I'll go with another insurer and get my new customer discount.'

If you can comply with the following assumptions, then please proceed to complete our Request a Quote Form.

  • You will be at least 18 years of age when cover commences
  • You have not been convicted of any criminal offence other than a driving offence nor do you have any non-motoring prosecutions pending (this statement only applies to convictions that are unspent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Acts 1974)
  • You have never had a proposal for insurance declined, renewal refused, cover terminated or special terms imposed
  • You have been claim free for the last 5 years in relation to Horse Insurance
If you are unable to comply with all of the above assumptions, we may still be able to help and please call us on ********* to speak to our Equestrian Sales Team.

In a post you deleted after I quoted it, you said they did
Not sure why im bothering to explain but I it helps people calm down....
The operator said they probably couldn't give me a quote before even asking for my name etc but another operator was happy to give a quote and even looked up my claims under my old policy. So i suspect the first person didn't realise those old claims were with them - something he would have learned had he allowed me to give my policy number and name.
But their quote was too high so I went elsewhere.
Happy?

It's so irritating when people delete posts.
And insurance companies are in the business of making profit, not supporting us horse owners, unfortunately.
My two horses had so many exclusions I decided to 'self-insure' them by putting money aside every month instead. It's worked well for me.
I deleted them as no one was answering my question!
Wish I could turn off commenting like you can do on Facebook....
I have another quote already so if SEIB won't lower theirs I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
Not sure anything else needs to be said on this.

I was trying to answer your question as early as post #3, I just asked for clarification that's all.

In future the best way to shut down commenting on a non-controversial thread is to walk away from it, not make it more interesting by deleting the title and OP and carry on commenting yourself :)

This doesn't make any sense.

You said that you would normally go with NFU but they wouldn't provide you with insurance as you had had too many claims. Not that the price was too high.

If the price was too high then why didn't you just say that the price was too high? ??

(1000-600)/600 = 66.6%
I've got a quote for about £600 again elsewhere so not so fussed now whether they lower the premium or not when I call them.

That's grand.

That'll be with you accurately answering any questions that they ask about your previous claim/cover history, of course :).

I quoted the post you deleted because I was answering it. Anyone can see that from reading my answer, because what you originally wrote, then deleted, is still quoted in my post.

Don't forget the two week delay in full cover when you reinsure. A lot of people have been badly caught out by that.

Who is your £600 quote from OP? If you let us know, there may be some valuable info to be had, as there are several insurance companies out there who are notoriously bad at paying out

Got to say I have been with E and L/Insurance Emporium for years now and they have been brilliant. Pay out fast and in full. Better than PetPlan who I had awful trouble with.
I had trouble with PetPlan over 15 years ago and still hold it against them lol.
I've heard a few complaints about them so I wouldn't go with PP despite all the years passed.
I think E&L have had to clean up their act since being taken over by the Allianz group I think but I feel that they have such a long established reputation for being utter charlatans that personally I wouldn't even entertain the thought of going there.
