9 yr old horse coffin joint problems prognosis poor ...thoughts?

And what a farrier, pc2003 !!!

OP, good luck, your horse has a good chance of coming sound :) I can't add to the great advice you've already been given.

And what a farrier, pc2003 !!!

Ye it was a revelation. He was just qualified and he basically said no shoe will correct these front feet so let's just leave them alone! We have a deal now.... He won't touch the frog, and he still has my business haha!!
We do quite a bit of road work so self trimming to a degree so don't see lots of him but I owe him one big style!!!!

pc2003 thats fantastic ...what was your horses diagnosis out of interest and who is your farrier lol i need him haha iv had the horse barefoot on the back for a while as i was spending so much shoeing the front i could afford them on back and he was no trouble coming out of back shoes so hopefully the front wont be too much trauma either ! It does seem eunanamous that he could benefit from barefoot and like you have all said i have nothing to loose i cant be in worse situation than now which is currently looking at retirement ...

After 11 months of diagnostics and vets wasting my money he was eventually diagnosed at RVC with bilateral hock spavins and a 'boney spur' on his navicular bone. The also noted in his official papers his poor front foot confirmation and the X Ray's showed quite a severe twist in the bones coming from his foot up his leg. Amongst all the other treatments, remedial farriery was top of the list. He was nearly 8 at the time.
Now, obviously he is a horse that has 'joint issues'. They will never go away, I know that, it will never be perfect. But we have found something that allows him to be comfortably hacked out 5-6 times a week in all paces and it works for us. I just wish I had done it sooner. Seems so obvious now. Why force his foot in to an un natural shape?
My horse has been booked in to be pts twice. He is stamped Lou.
Just give it a go and see where you get too!!
