90 years old and still riding

Was just reading that article and I think its lovely shes still going out, apparently shes a regular at the stables even if not riding.

Imo no Hi Viz is acceptable as shes on her own private land, but not wearing a hat is really just silly and a bad example.

But hats off to her.. :p

I love that the most wonderfully thick sheepskin full seat/saddle cover is used when she rides, I can relate to that and I'm not 90

I think the silk scarf keeps all your hair really neat and tidy, without squishing it down, which probably helps if you are off to somewhere after your ride,
silk scarf is also incredibly warm, light and comfortable around neck/ears
I tried a silk scarf under my riding hat during winter once, toasty head/ears and neck
 
Headscarves were very fashionable in the 1960s, also the Queen doesn't wear a hat as it would squash her hair and she obviously grew up and learnt to ride in there era when adult riders didn't routinely wear a hat for exercising.

Don't know if it was on the TV but when younger she always used to try and get a ride whenever she visited different countries, including being bolted with on a Police horse in one country, to the horror of her aides.

She is incredible to be still riding in her 90s, long may it continue.
 
I took a lady out for a ride on her 80th birthday a couple of weeks ago. She was pretty doddery when she was on the ground, but absolutely awesome, relaxed and completely in control once on the horse. I doubt I'll be bothered to ride when I'm that age!
 
We had a lady in her 80th year, doing her first 80k endurance ride (7 hours in the saddle at speed). Wow, was all I could think, though possibly with more impressed expletives!
 
There was a photo and article in the 'Irish Field' paper a couple of weeks back of Stella Smith, one of the Masters of the Tara Harriers (I think) celebrating her 90th birthday out hunting.
 
What a woman, she obviously enjoys her horses. Long stirrups, jodhpur boots and headscarf. They don't make them like this anymore! God bless her.
 
She does ride long! Blimey!
I know the hat thing is a no-no, but at that age I'd have more concerns about not pooping myself or remembering my own name than wearing a hat I reckon 😂

I don't think she was ever a natural rider, but hey ho, its probably a pretty tough life being a monarch, even if you don't ever have to clean an oven, so let her do what she wants, once in a while.

As you get older the range of motion of various joints becomes more limited; I know that my hips are much less flexible than they used to be (oh, and ankles and knees!) and I am only in my sixties. My riding position has shall we say had to adapt to the physical limitations of my body. However, it is the riding that keeps me as mobile as I am.
 
I can't help but feel, that when she has to pass away, she would probably rather it was doing what she loves, riding her ponies or walking with the dogs.

I think it's incredible!
 
Shes amazing.

I hope I last as long, and if I do intend to do as much as possible. I wont be giving up either of my passions - horses or gin.
 
She rides in the Home Park, which is totally enclosed and private.

There's not much that will scare the ponies, and Emma (the pony she is riding) is very safe, the yard girls will have already ridden her for a bit if she is a bit fresh.

I once taught a lady who was 80 - it was part of her bucket list. She wanted to learn to ride well enough to go for a canter on a hack. We got that far and then she went off to do sky-diving! She was going deaf and blind in one eye - such a game old girl!!
