Hi this is a long shot but I'd be really curious to know where these events were held... Many years (mid-late 90's?) ago my first pony and I were stabled at Carrington in Manchester. And we did 2 events within an hour of that yard as a yard outing. The first was a straight XC. The first jump was a hedge into another field, and halfway round there was a bridge to cross and you had tro drop to trot to go over it. I think that is what I was doing in the picture. The heights were in feet and inches not cm.

The 2nd was an unaffliated ODE. The dressage test had a release and retake in canter across the diagonal (which I vividly recall as my horse left the ring at speed!). The SJ was on grass.

I'd love to know where they were. I assume they no longer run events as I am sure I know all the unaff HT and ODE oprions locally, but both were great fun and even if the venues are still there, I'd be keen to go back.

Any ideas?

I don't know what it was properly called but Marton (near Congleton) used to run some kind of cross country competition in the 90s. I remember driving past one day when it was on and being very jealous. There was definitely some hedge crossings on that course.

Thanks for replies. Looking at the map, Storeton will have been further away but anywhere near Congleton is definitely possible. The riding school in Marton that is there now says it opened in 2006 - so I wonder if they took over another venue? It was a fun course to ride! x

Not the same place, it's the other side of the village. It would have been accessed off Marton Hall Lane but there was definitely a jump over the hedge almost next to the A34.

The jump pver the hedge was the first jump right by the collecting ring, which iirc was near the main road as everything was pretty compact. I remember it well as the jump caused carnage. So many horses did not compute it as a jump and would not go over. My lovely irish cob flew it. He was a very cool ponio!

The most memorable feature though was the compulsory drop down to trot over a bridge.

These names aren't ringing any bells but it was 30 odd years ago so they probably won't sound familiar.

Hey, me too, you don't remember Flame, do you? I would have left roughly 1994.

Local things that held XC and ODE that I remember are Wilmslow and, I think, Bridgewater RCs. We used to do cross country clear round at Croft Riding Centre. Mitchells had an epic hunter trial course. I'll ask my Mum if she remembers any others. ETA Dean Valley, Church Farm in Lancashire and Beacon RC, Alsager EC, IIRC.

Oh gosh I don’t really remember anyone! There was a man who seemed to run it (not the scary owner - a younger guy) who took us to the events. My pony was called Rupert. It was a fun yard. Lots going on all the time.

The one at Marton alongside the A34 opposite Cocksmoss Lane was run by ECCTG so a riding club event, I think the the pony club used it as well as a hunter trial course - it doesn't look like Marton though
