Sadly my old loan pony solly was put to sleep tonight

She came to my yard nearly 13 years ago a scared and untrusting little pony who for most of her life had seen the bad side of human nature. She arrived with us as a bit of an emergency as she had been out on loan to another yard - the owners visited and saw her up to her ankles in crap and she had been in her box for nearly six weeks. She got out and damaged her eye and nobody could get near her. She was moved to us and spent most of her first week cowering at the back of her stable . we tried to spend time with her but unless it was on her terms she wasn't interested. The riding was also interesting to say the least - I would love to say she was the perfect loan pony but I could more often than not be seen being carted off with, dumped on the floor and just generally going in more wrong directions than right

Slowly and gradually she started to come round the riding became more manageable and she started to act like we could be ok and weren't going to beat her at every opportunity although her headshyness never disappeared. I had her for nearly three years until I outgrew her -she had a few short term loaners in between until Maddie came along. I never believed in soulmates until this pairing. They did everthing together - solly would jump for her ,let her touch her head and they truely believed in each other . Solly found a new lease of life and Maddie could often be found on the nd of a leasd rope heading for the nearest dinner bucket. She was truely a special little pony who turned out to have a fb little personality underneath that meek and mild exterior . The field and the yard will be a quieter place without her . Rip solly you nutty little chestnut mare 1981-10/11/09

so sorry for your loss. I read your earlyer post and had everything crossed for a better outcome. You gave her a lovely life when by the sounds of it most others would have given up on her. You should be proud and remember all the happy times. She will always remember you where there for her right untill the bitter end. You made a brave desition. My thoughts are with you (((hugs))).
RIP solly you where truly loved.

Noooo! RIP Solly, you loveable nutter.

There are too many memories to write down about this special pony. I remember the state of her that first weekend, and stocking up on carrots for her to prove that human hands now contained nice things and no longer fear.

The first time I managed to tack her up took about an hour (i'm not that bad normally
tongue.gif
, bless the little one, she was just so untrusting

) and was so chuffed when she finally let me tack her up normally - well for her.

A light has indeed gone out at the farm and the next time i come down it will be very strange.

Jen please give Madz a hug from me and a big hug coming your way too.

Thinking of everyone.

Run straight and free Sol
