A Before and After, for JunoXV...

I'd like to say he can stay forever because he doesn't eat much, but he does! Navalgem summed it up when she said he gets under your skin, so ask me again in a year. ;)

*Note to self, put date in diary for asking above question again :p* Looking forward to watching you do things with him ;)

ETS, above question doesn't appear to be above:rolleyes:

MG - he's looking better by the day but I'm trying not to overdo the amount of work in a desperate bid to beef him up as he'll just get tired and sour.

Juno - there was a comical moment when Cal and Jup were stood side by side in the yard looking like Laurel and Hardy, but I didn't have the camera unfortunately. :( I've not seen your post but will seek it out now. :)

Thanks siennamum.

Worried1 - "hench"? Is this some regional dialect I know nothing of or just your hormones affecting your typing ability?

wizoz - la la la la I can't hear you...:D

He is a really smart stamp BD. A bit different from your "normal" type, but I think you will have a lot of fun with him... will ask you whether he's a project when he's going round burghley shall we?! ;) :p

Really smart, BD, we-likey. Out of sheer curiosity, do you veto potential purchases on the basis of colour?! I will admit to looking at chestnut horses and thinking 'that will go really well with my saddle..' :O

Wow, well done. He looks sooooo much better & in a very short space of time. Amazing what a difference it makes to their general look once they are tidy, shiny & a little less angular.

Its much more fun, feeding them up than dieting them I always think although not so good for the bank balance or the mucking out;)

Looking forward to some competition action.

You've made a big difference to him in four weeks. Hopefully you will get his jumping back to what it was too. He improved in the 2 rounds you put up:)

I was talking to Siennamum and we both agree that having naturally fat horses is a PIA. My poor horse is sat on a patch of mud while the rest of them are on yummy grass:(

Great improvement and a cracking horse looking forward to seeing your progress with him. How big is he (doesn't look huge in the stable but looked quite big under saddle)?

Just been told about this thread, so feel I should stick my head in!

Will say that he was being fed 1x scoop of chop, 1x scoop comp mix, 1x scoop sugarbeet, two mugs of Baileys No.1, soya oil & GlobalVite twice daily, with a big haylage net at night [which after a few weeks he didn't always finish]. He was out at grass all during the day, and there was plenty of acreage with reasonable grass for the winter we've had. Navalgem commented on the improvement in his condition at Oasby - we put weight on him from when he arrived. He did have a nasty rash on his back when he arrived, which cleared up once moving onto the Globalvite & being washed with Malaseb, however the hairgrowth wasn't the same thickness as it was still growing back when he left, thus the 'dogeared' look ... !

When he arrived we were told the rash was due to a feed intolerance, so we were very cautious to let it settle and not pump him full of hard feed straight away for fear of aggravating it further.

I'm going to try something similar with a 15.1 naturally slim Pikey standing next to a 17.1 box-rested and eating his head off Fugly. I'm not sure whether it's a good idea or not yet as I fear Fugly might think that Pikey is just nicely brunch-sized .

Haha, you must have found the only "naturally slim" coloured in existence ;) :p

Aw, Cal. :) Looking very good. Are you just weaning yourself on to different colours gradually, starting with shades? The little one you've got stashed is even darker . . . what's going to happen if you get a grey????

KatB - he is very different to the rest of the gang but a change is as good as a rest surely? ;)

I quite like seeing the difference in the flabby hunters when they come in from their holiday to how they look by the opening meet, but I know what you mean about it being fun to feed them up...remind me of that when I'm shovelling skiploads of poo about please.

DieselDog - I agree re having fatties, they make you feel so guilty too with the longing looks every time you go near the feed room. Maybe Cal will end up being a porker eventually. :p

Sarah_Jane - I think he's 16.1 and a bit, but rides like a bigger horse (just not a bigger horse of HH's dimensions. :D)

Thanks SW66, he is a really lovely horse to have around, very quiet and unassuming and v different to the rest of the thugs.

Thanks, Fiona; it is coming through but the problem is how to get him having enough and the other three...ahem....larger boys not having too much. I bet you have the same problem with your two, don't you?

I have the same problem with my two, and haven't solved it yet; but surely it's easier with 3 spares??? Just turn each "generously girthed" boy out for 1/3rd of the day, leaving Cal out all day with Dr Green. Wish I had a couple of spare fatties around

Cal is lovely by the way, he looks fun! Videos look interesting, no idea how he kept the jumps up without looking at them  - sheepskin noseband next ?;)

Glad to see Cal picking up so quickly :) He was a porker as a foal and both parents held their weight really well, especially his mum (a rather round red head lol) He always looked fab whenever I saw him with Navalgem :) Looking forward to hearing more updates :D

cheers hg! he was a porker as a foal because ( direct quote from vet) his mum "produces milk like a fresian cow"! lol

What I want to know is......
Why have all these people replied to this thread when it states in the title its for ME!
You lot shouldn't even be reading it let alone responding. :p

You've just reminded me of a friend that used to feed waste Horlicks (fresh from the factory) to put condition on them. Coincidentally, my OH misheard me and now thinks that "Cal" is actually called "Cow".

Yep me too - watch out for the post where BD's been dumped on her bottom!! :o

Seriously BD he's looking so much better, lovely shiny coat and a good covering. Once the muscle has built up he'll be a little stunner. :D

deskbound and m_m: watch out, as I know full well that mickey-taking results in "what goes around, comes around" situations. Yesterday I ate dirt. Fran found it as hilarious as I did her plopping off Jupiter last week. :D

The only downside to that is that each of the fatties feels the need to play with Cal, so he comes in worn out.

Re a sheepskin noseband, nah, just bigger fences. ;) I think once he's stronger in himself he'll be less inclined to rush; he still makes a nice shape when he gets there though. I think that day he was just so delighted to be out and about he was very "let me at 'em". :D
