sadly not a real horse ;)

He had been planning on getting a name plaque for the house for a while so I decided to go and buy some slate to make him one... and of course Jack the horse got one too ;)

Now I just have to work out how to attatch it to the wall. Hmm, something like no more nails?...

Very creative! Yes something like No More Nails should do the trick, or you can also get some super-super sticky pads in DIY stores too I think. You could either stick it staight to the wall, or you could stick the slate to a wooden board and then screw the wooden bit to the wall. That way it isn't permanently stuck to the wall if you ever want to move it. A wooden back would also give it a bit of 3D-ness and maybe make it stand out more.

Well done:)

Thank you :)

The wood sounds like a good idea as with Jack's especially, I'd like to be able to move it however the slate is already quite thick, and would it not have to protrude around the edge a bit to get the screws in?

Something like plywood that you could paint wouldn't be too thick - you can get 3-ply and 5-ply, the 3-ply stuff is not too thick. You could screw in from the front, which would mean it would need to protrude a bit, yes. You would not need terribly big screws though, so about 1cm all around would probably be enough. The alternative would be to get a little keyhole hanger for the back, like this one: http://www.woodworkingparts.com/keyhole-hanger/

You would have to chip out a little slot in the wood, screw the keyhole hanger on and then hang it from a nail/screw. If you use two of the (one each side at the top) it will hang very securely - I have got a small shelf that is mounted this way.
