Slughtly pointless post but wanted to say thank you and let everyone know how absolutely fantastic the Royal Vet College is. Billy started colicking on Thursday morning, Goncalo came out and tubed him to try and clear the impaction, however this didn't work completely and he continued to Colic into Friday on and off, Friday lunchtime he was admitted to the hospital at the RVC as he was still impacted but also pretty dehydrated and exhausted. Right from the word go the who,e team there were brilliant. Goncalo called me every hour on Thursday after he saw him then came out again Thursday night and Friday morning, as soon as we arrived at the hospital he was assessed and given pain relief by the clinical team there who were so so good and quiet with him and did a very good job of reassuring me! He stayed saturdAy and Sunday night and the students rang me twice a day to let me know how he was and put up with me coming and giving him cuddles on Saturday afternoon when they were very busy. Luckily he didn't need surgery, just more stomach tubing, a drip and lots of buscopan!
They do an absolutely brilliant job there though and I would recommend them to anyone :)

That's great to hear. They saved my dog's life a few months ago as well after a stomach impaction, although they didn't do the initial surgery, she was referred there in a hurry 2 days later when she was dying from septic peritonitis. I don't think she could have pulled through anywhere else in south east England as she was in such a bad way. The QMH is a fantastic hospital. My dog had the best possible care and the immediate attention of a highly skilled team. Like you CS, I would recommend RVC to anyone.

My girl has not long come from there as well and i'm so pleased to be riding her again, although we have to watch out and manage things, they have given me back my horse.

The tech that looked after her was lovely, she picked up straight away what she liked done to her as a distraction and comfort and reassured me all the way that she'd get fuss and care.
My vet was great too, explaining everything in 'English', contacting me in his own time and telling me not to hesitate to ring if i need something explained etc. All round they made the stay and process as simple as they could even though i was distraught (as us owners get!).

They are my vets too and I think they are really good, they do really seem to care about the horses and because they often have students with them they explain things is a way which is easier to understand.

Sorry, he was in Friday night and Saturday night even! When Im not at uni having to be productive the days slightly blur inTo one! His clinician was Imogen and the other girl who looked after him was Sarah and then a couple of students who were absolutely lovely as well who made sure he was a bit of a happier horse!

I couldn't agree with you more. Goncalo is a star and the team at the hospital have always left me feeling increadibly reassured. I am always puzzled as to why so many people living close by don't use them.

Glad to hear your boy is making a good recovery. They don't mess around with colic there which is also reasuring - my boy coliced one saturday morning, called them out, gave him pain relief and he was fine for the rest of the day, it was only come the evening that he 'relapsed', called them back out, did a rectal, found the impaction, whizzed him in, flushed him through (oraly and IV) and by the next morning he was clear :)
