To all the advice and hugs and well wishes of all the forum members who commented on my last thread. The vet came out and X-rayed the pony and apart from some small changes to the coffin joint nothing major that would explain the lameness.
Therefore we're putting it down to soft tissue damage. She is now on 2 danilon a day for a week and then one a day and see how she goes but it's like a new lease of life. She's still happy and has quality if life so we're going to let her keep going for the time being. If she doesn't show any signs of improvement by summer when they have to conme in 24/7 then we will re-assess.
But thank you for all your comforting words they really helped me come to terms with what might have happened.
