About clippers....don't run off yet
smile.gif

I know there are loads of clippers posts...I have read a few...but I don't seem to get a difinitive answer for what I want. The posts are all about different themes and I can't get it straight in my head (they're about "do these clipper heat up?" or "bargain clippers?" or "would you buy these from ebay?") So I thought we could have one big general clippers post (to help me out!).
I would like the following info about your clippers:
Brand:
Model name:
Price:
Type of horse (s) you clip: for this I mean breed, thick hair/short hair.
Pros:
Cons:
Any special features/reasons you bought that set of clipper:

I'm hoping lots of people will add info to this post so I can make a spreadsheet for future reference to aid me when I buy some clippers in next couple of weeks....also will be very interesting to know peeople's experiences.
Thanks!

Brand: Liveryman
Model name: Harmony
Price: £150 including 2 sets of blades + battery pack
Type of horse (s) you clip: for this I mean breed, thick hair/short hair. At the moment have only clipped my thin haired WB, but am hopefully going to clip a friends hairy soon, as have heard others have used them with success on thicker coats.
Pros: Soo quiet, very easy to use even on fiddly bits, no tensioning blades, battery pack lasts 3h, got my clipper phobic horse fine with them.
Cons: May not do really really hairy coats, but haven't tried as yet.
Any special features/reasons you bought that set of clipper:
Because they are quiet and battery operated as well as mains.

Thanks so much for posting - I am off out now (to the tack shop but not for clippers

) but am really looking forward to reading about everyone's clippers (hopefully) later. I want it to be a bit like a "What clippers?" you know, like "What Car?" mag.

Brand: Lister
Model name: Liberty
Price: £360ish
Type of horse (s) you clip: for this I mean breed, thick hair/short hair. All sorts, mine are cob type pony with very thick hair and warmblood, have also done welsh cobs, hairy little ponies, tbs
Pros: easy to handle for smaller hands, battery operated, lightweight and reasonably quiet.
Cons: battery doesn't last as long as i would like, sometimes find you get to the end of a full clip and you start running out of power but lasts enough to do my sedated horse in one go
Any special features/reasons you bought that set of clipper: because they are battery operated and quiet and the man in clipper sharp said they were good

I really like them so would have to agree with him

brand: liveryman
model: arena
cost: £10 secondhand (needed a good service) (£300ish new)
type of horses i clip: very furry newforest, thin coated ISH, thin coated WB
pros: they were very cheap, they are quite quiet, they are easy to use, and have an automatic thermal cutout
cons: if you dont get the blades tensioned right they overheat very quickly, you have to be careful with the cable if clipping something that isnt very co-operative
special reasons i bought them: they were really cheap and in decent nick other than needing a service, and i was sick of paying other people to do my horses

Brand: Heiniger
Model name: Progress
Price: £220 ish
Type of horse (s) you clip: for this I mean breed, thick hair/short hair.
IDxTB long hairy monster, Haflinger fluffy
Pros: Very comfy and also good for Border Terrier clipping!
Cons: None that Ive found so far
Any special features/reasons you bought that set of clipper
It had the best reviews by far for comfort for ladies, the handle is quite slim and the clippers are light, but they still have enough welly to do 4-6 horses without a rest to cool down. They are mains powered so battery not an issue.

They have been fantastic (and saved a fortune on dog groonming too!)

hi hun,
as you know i clip my girls roughly every 3-4wks, at the moment im using the heiniger ones as i dont have mains power yet but will go back to the wolsely when i get that on.

Cons:

Thanks for posting. I had been thinking of Liberty Lister from another post and also Heiniger ones but wanted views on loads more. Was hoping others would post about same ones so getting either similar or varying views on similar/same clippers. Am going to put this info in a spreadsheet.

I have Lister clippers - couldn't tell you which model but I have had them 8/9 years and I bought them from my old RI. She had them as she clipped for people so they are heavy duty mains clippers. They are very reliable - they are serviced every year and i have about 6 sets of blades for them. I use them to clip my very hairy cob - her coat is about and inch thick and I have also clipped her feathers off and hogged her with them - and my wb who has a fairly fine coat. I aslo clip my neices hairy pony! Other on the yard also use them to clip - so they do TB's, ID x, Arabs and a Shire X feathers. They cope with all of the above no problem.

As they are mains powered, reasonably heavy, fairly noisy but are reliable and will easily do 6 horses or more in a day. No special features just the basic heavy duty model - I bought them because my RI was buying a battery operated set so they were 75 quid! She has since had to borrow them from me as her new ones have broken down more than once....
