both of us that is.
PC senior area trials today. great, was ready to move up but aware they always make the course stiff. It's novice level courses sort of thing.
So walked the course last night and though ************* as you can guess from my previous post!
Dressage was ok, judged by jean mitchell and feel perhaps a little harsh as he didn't explode and was in a reasonable outline, but it is the areas so fair enough, about 17th/21 after that. SJ was going well, he was flying until I mucked him up and he couldn't jump a jump so had that demolised, then I rushed, he got a bit tense and 3 more down, so 16 faults.
Was petrified of the xc, particularly the water, a jump in, and some mammoth logs at the end.
He was in great form, flew the first two, hesitated at a ski jump, scrambled over and jumped the jump after very honestly. Did a combination, couldn't see a direct line through so circled (separate numbers) which I think most did.Straight through the line of corners/roller. Then the water and my god is that horse brilliant, he flew and I have the most fabulou picture of him flying in, through the water, over the middle and out, my expression is just priceless as I was really scared he would hit it and somersault, no worries there. Jumped a wall at a sharp angle, please with him, then a big ditch with brush behind it, off bridge. Over a palisade, lost a stirrup (upsets him) and very nearly jumped the rope separating two lines of jumps, and nearly ended up in the fence judges car (his face....)). Galloped on, another into woods, ditch and out over a log. Then got him back to jump through a fence line then turn sharp right to the mammoth log. Jumped the first bit, he then steamrollered on, I turned, saw a pile of orange logs, had overshot my line so intended to jump them to get the log.

Next thing I know his legs have gone (the turn) and both of us are crashing into the pile of orange logs.
He got up and trotted up pretty quick and I was sharp after him The fence judges asked did we want to carry on ?!?, I got on him to walk him and check him, he seemed fine but, alhtough only 3/4 fences from home starting to try and do the logs when both of us were shaken and they were well up to height seemed silly so took him back to the box.
Not his fault, not mine and delighted he jumped all the big ones, but really disappointed as he could have had a clear and I suspect without time as he really galloped on.
He seems fine, has pulled a shoe half off and a wee cut and will most likely be stiff I think.
I know I am! I walloped my elbow and head off the orange pipes so have a v. sore, bruised elbow and a bit of a headache but thankfully got up quickly so didn't have to see the paramedics!
So, a bit of a mixed day. Ironic that the only 2 times I've fallen off, have been at the area trials (this year and last) and they're the only two xc courses we've had problems at. Last year we weren't ready but this year....falling on the flat! I was first to go so everybody then knew to go steady there.
I went back later and there are skid marks over a metre long, with a line where the stud was.

What a shame!! Damn orange logs getting in the way!!

sounds like he went really well though!!

hi ya! lol the areas had a really good track today didnt they? lol sooooo glad i stuck to intermeadiate - although did you see the line we had to take through fence 7? had to go to tight left of your corner a and we had to jump the log and corner on a very strange angle :O

anyhoos we ended up 2nd in the inter!! woop we are off to cork... lol

arnt you glad you didnt fall in the water like most of the route? they luked rather black...

were you number one/on a dun/bay horse?

Well done! I was no. 1 on a bay!
lol, that always happen, they put the biggest class line up, then try and decide how to fit the others round it!
The intermediate was stiff! I thought the ditches you had to jump were horrible at that level.
Wasn't fussed on the various stones/holes around the fences but overall a good course.
I thought I saw a lot of wet/pics of wet route people.

Well..the juniors were all watching and apparently if it hadn't been for the orange logs 'blocking' us, he would have been on top of me, so glad for small mercies I think!
He was fab actually, delighted with how he took me round

Well, both of us are still alive this morning, he has two minor cuts and I have a v. sore right shoulder to my elbow but could have been worse!

ohh i was at the sj and saw you on the ground! poor you we saw you on the ground...

the inter course was pretty stiff!! was glad to get around - we jumped quite a lot of all the open fences

but we got round all rite

hope the cuts get better soon! lol are you heading to cork with your team?

Ditto! I came off twice on sunday and even now my shoulder to elbow is very uncomfortable! I can move it but it is painful! Due to the type of work that I do I have been signed off by my gp for two weeks!

Feel a bit of a cheat as went riding today although must say was only walking

The curse of area horse trials has always followed me so your not alone! Of the two times I did it i was secind after dressage and had a silly stop each time on xc that was a very rare event but happened at areas! hope your shoulder (and mine) gets better soon!

yup. Did you see the fall? I'm told he went right down by several people, nearly wish it was on camera to see why! Nope, no team as only two riders so individuals.
lucky you=signed off work I mean!
Must be an areas thing, both years I have crashed a sj and fallen xc, although last year was because it was too big too soon. Ah well, I'm just glad nothings broken although typically, no war wounds to show off! (I don't bruise..at all!).
only_me -do you know do the photographers have a website? I'm sure they do but can't think of what it is?
Hopefully everyone is feeling better soon with all these falls!
Kat_b-how did yours happen?Horsey and you ok?
