A bit for horse that chews and leans...?

As above really, i'd like to know if there is a bit that can help with him leaning on the bit and chewng away at it.
A relaxing hack soon becomes tedious and a bit crampy!

I was thinking of going from an eggbutt snaffle to something along the lines of loose ring/lozenge/french link.....?
 
Is he is any discomfort - more than gentle mouthing would suggest a discomfort to me?
If you are in a single joint then I would loose that anyway as they are comfortable for very few horses bescause the joint will jab the horse in the roof of their mouth - not nice! A french link will be a big improvement so I would try that - I personally find more horses get on well with a loose ring, esp if one of the problems is with him leaning.
 
He is in a single joint, that's why i'd like to get him out of that as he doesn't seem to like the action of it.
I think i will try a french link and see how we go, hopefully he will relax a bit more if his mouth is more comfy.

I second the idea of changing from a single jointed eggbut. The single joint is comfortable for few horses really. The eggbut is fixed and so encourages the horse to lean. Your horse may prefer a bit made of a different material (sweet iron/aurigan/salox/etc,etc). Many horses do go well in a french link, others prefer a mullen-mouthed bit.
A good idea is to try a variety from a bit-bank and give them all a trial, so that you can see which one your horse goes best in.

I have just been looking at sweet iron as it apparently encourages the horse to accept the bit.
good idea to try a few and give them a fair trial.
 
Our chestnut mare chomps on the bit! She tends to do it when she is stressed or bored! She came to us in a rubber Pelham which she had chewed a big chunk out of! We have tried her in a French link snaffle, myler comfort snaffle, kimblewick and she is currently in a copper, roller full cheek snaffle. She chomps in all of theses but seems more relaxed in the copper roller however I doubt she will ever stop the chomping as I'm sure it is habit now!
