heading out for a nice hack today...I admit, I was nervous, but tried to push that aside and carry on. Okay, we got to a large open field, and a jogging started. I nuisance as the moment I stopped her she would start again, but tbh I think that is just the way she will be...Across the other side of the field two walkers with their dogs were heading away from us, until the larger dog saw us....I don't understand why they walk their dogs off the lead if they can't even bl**dy control them. Came straight for Chloe, so that was interesting....Kinda bailed out and landed on my feet *wahoo* - dog must have been scared of Chloes air dressage, and legged it back to owners...
NO chance of me getting back on at first, she was just so wound up...One of the liveries had seen us and came to help me get back on and hold her for me which was great, as I REALLY needed to get back on her...so off we jogged/side skipped/spooked, and we headed back. I think I should've gone on for a bit longer, but tbh she wasn't listening to me whatsoever, and wasn't that safe.

Decided to head back, but go a longer route so she didn't think she would be getting away with it completely. The field we went into was awful - very, very muddy, lots of deep ruts etc...Perfect timing for a good bolt. So off she legged it, towards a load of walkers.

Did try to divert, but then thankgod she then started slowing down and come back to me. Extremely frazzled and a bit cheesed off by this point at me, the hoss and the dog owners.

Have asked for her to be hacked as much as possible this week - Will not be taking her to the sponsored ride if she is going to be like this....sorry, just a random ramble, but fingers crossed she starts to behave a little better - I am hellbent on jumping that plane lol!

Oh I know how you feel

We all have days like this that smash our esteem with the horses. Do not be too upset. The next time out may be a perfect day and your haapy elated feelings will come right back!

Good luch and i hope you can make the ride!

I think it's something in the air!

My boy is usually quiet as a mouse to hack, but yesterday he was on the brink of bolting- i could feel it building up, so i tried to get him to walk, but he was sideways, backwards anywhich ways but straight, throwing his head in the air like an idiot, bouncing off the ground......basically totally out of control! I turned for home too.

I think you're right to get her out as much as possible, it's the only way they settle into it. I was hoping to go hunting for the first time, but can't cope with the embarresment if he's going to behave like that.

Oh, sorry to hear about your problems too - She was exactly the same. Plus her spooking was ridiculous, she is usually absolutely bombproof! I would als love to hunt her (She came from Ireland, hunted into the ground there) so I think that is what makes her like she is out hacking!

Such a shame, I only hope they both settle soon!!

God you could have been us today too!!

Fred is a sweetheart but gets very excited and when he is about to pop puts a little bronc and buck in! and then plays air guitar with his feet.

I am hell bent on continuing with him because he has such a great clean jump, its whether he will get p2p out of his head at the age of 12!

He was supposed to be for other half and was like a donkey (maybe doped...) when we tried him out, but the fitter he gets, although he looks great, he is just no way suitable for other half.

Half playing with part exchanging him for cobby plodder for the man but he has sooo many good points its hard to know where to go with him. I already have a horse but he is 26, so in the back of my mind I am kind of hoping he will be ready to replace my current boy...

Dont give up is all I can say! - at least you got back alive and bloody dog owners that cannot or will not control their dogs are a menace!

Hugs!

Oh bugger, poor you! I'm sure it will all be worth it in the end, especially if he has a wicked jump!! I am also hoping Chloe will get hunting out of her head, but I doubt it now

Hugs to you to, let me now how you both get on! An ex p2p must be bloody hard work!

dont give up hope!! I seriously thought I was getting wimpy today, then realised having been spoilt with a real gentleman horse for 7 years, who I get to ride after riding fred (air guitar horse)....made me a bit comfortable and laid back! You get to know them.....

Think it is just getting to know another horse takes time, getting to know their limits. I expect if he does the same in a couple of days time it wouldnt phase me as I sort of expect it now!!

Ex pointer...fab jumping animals, but one speed, GO or stop! even walking has taken 3 months to get him to track up, you ask for more they jog rather than lengthen, so its slow progress but other than the excited bits when riding or turning him out where he explodes....also does it coming in! - its coming!

Let me know how you get on with yours!!!

I have had her for not too long I suppose...I really should have thought about the standing martingale she had on when I hacked her at her old home!! Personally don't like them myself though. But I am still definately getting to know her, and boy has she been hard work!

He is lucky to have such patient owners! I bet there is never a boring moment when your with him hehe. Mine will not lengthen or shorten, she just was never taught how to! All she did was hunt, so she is in that mindset, although less so in the school! You wouldn't think I was talking about a cob here would you...!

Best of luck with yours, keep me updated
