Yeah what is the saddle he’s in on that last hacking video? They’re all a bit grainy aren’t they. And yeah high withered with a big dip… kinda similar to my old boy - who had back issues. His feet don’t look great either.

Jack does look nice at first glance but he has very straight hocks, when I was researching PSD with Lari this site explained the corelation between straight hocks and PSD. He might be worth a punt but there's a reason he's so cheap, 14 yrs of age isn't a biggy, especially if he's stayed sound all that time.

Incidentally Lari isn't that straight legged after all.

Did want to share this actually since there is concerns of conformation, I only just learnt about him today but this is Hampton, he is an interesting read

Good actual grief. Off to read this now

ETA - having read the writeup I wonder how they created that original photo, he doesn't look nearly that wonky and bizarre in any of the others. Or perhaps in the original photo he is just very, very old and broken down.

That looks like Bay Ronald from that article, Hampton's last son. It seems he was bred from even with those appalling front legs! And if that's Hampton in your photo, he clearly passed them on.

I think it was a very early photo. I was shown it on twitter and did a bit of investigating and having all the offspring too was interesting
Surprised it weren't on the article haha

He looks ideal for me, at first glance. If only it was a few months in the future..! Not looking yet. Not looking yet. NOT looking yet 😬😂
When you're 'not looking' is the most dangerous time - trust me!

I like the second lad, the first lad is too high in the wither for me - my old boy was like that and it was a nightmare for fitting anything. Both look a good sort though, conformationally compromised but seem to be doing the job they need to (if the adverts are true).

Depends what you want a horse for IMO, if happy hacking and low level riding club stuff conformation faults can be just taken into account especially if the horse has been sound and passes the vet. If you want to progress in competition good conformation is much more important.. one of mine had straight hocks and she never had problems, but I only did riding club level stuff..

My old boy who lived to 27 was still rideable until then had straight hocks and a high wither. However he did have an SI injury and various hind limb issues during the 17yrs I had him which was traumatic at the time but I able to manage. It did mean that I lowered my expectations though and stopped doing any dressage/ comps in mid teens although he did make a successful comeback in veteran showing at around 22yrs winning his last in-hand Mature Veteran Sunshine Tour Championship 2021 and 7th in ridden at 26yrs.

It is a minefield though and few horses are perfect. I don’t have any regrets about having him as he was my heart horse and I also had a lot of fun. I’m tentatively thinking about another so back up to two but it’s a lottery really.

I don’t expect any horse that I can afford will have perfect conformation. But there are some things that I’d like to avoid.

But I’m not looking yet, so it doesn’t matter anyway 😝
