A bit of advice on, er... bits! (Also in Stable Yard)

Hello,

Mainly lurk but often read decent advice on here so thought I'd dip my toe

I'm hoping for suggestions for bits I could try on my little mare as she often gets her tongue over the bit when schooling. She will open her mouth and 'windmill' her tongue out to the side, there's no preference as to which though. Apparently she's always done it and from time to time will when hacking but nothing like as often.

She has a small mouth and fleshy tongue so there's not a lot of room left in there and dentist has said a thinner, raised/curved bit is better suited for her oral confirmation. I never find her too strong and have excellent brakes so I'm looking to stay reasonably mild.

I school in a curved mouthpiece - to allow more room for tongue - single jointed snaffle and flash but don't feel strapping the mouth closed is really addressing the problem. (Ordinarily I'm not that keen on single joints but couldn't find a curved french link thin enough!)

I really am lost when it comes to bits so wondered if anyone on here could help? Thanks ever-so-much for reading.

have you tried contacting the Bit Bank, they will give advise on what bit might be suitable

Myler comfort snaffle - the only bit that my grey would contemplate (she has expensive taste and a dinky arab head). This is the one I have - it's dressage legal too.

You can hire them which is always a good idea. I also find that you need a smaller size than you would with a normal french link or lozenge bit.

PMP - I've not contacted BB but they're on my list. How's Chico? Hope his recovery continues well.

Faract - yes, my girl is proving to have expensive taste in almost every department too! Trialling bits first is a great idea and one I definitely think I'll look into.
