I currently ride my mare in a KyraK jointed snaffle with lozenge (dont know if there is a posher name for it!)
When I am schooling her she is fine however just recently I have been doing more canter work when out on a hack. Now she has discovered she has another gear and is being somewhat rude. Basically she is taking off with me. She only manages about 6 strides before I regain control but yesterday, she was cantering really nicely, then out of the blue she did an enormous buck and then pissed off with me hanging onto her neck. Baggage! LOL!!!
Before anyone says anything she does have SI so canter transitions are always a tad iffy and this is when she seems to want to tank. Hence I dont want to bit her up to harshly as i really doubt it is a mouth issue. I used to use a pelham cross country with her but because of the fact she will now buck I really am reluctant to use it. She also hates the curbchain but was always ok without it. When I ask her to go into canter she will throw her head up. up until now she has thrown herself about a bit and then settled but i am not happy about the pissing off and want to nip it in the bud so to speak. She is a big horse and i cant afford for her to get the upper hand.
So I am thinking either running martingale with maybe the flash noseband, or double bridle without the curb chain, or a leather covered chain. But that is because that is what i know! The problem is always fairly shortlived so dont need anything too severe and the bucking is related to back problems and exuberance.
I was wondering what other bits there are available as tbh i am really old school. Snaffle, frenchlink, copper roller pelham! And double bridle LOL!!!Thats all I know!!
I am happy to ride with double reins, just not sure how all the new fancy bits work!
So she puts her head down to buck, then she throws her head up and tanks off. Im guessing martingale LOL! Because of SI I have to live with the bucking. Think I have answered my own question! But any other suggestions appreciated!
