For anyone who doesn't know I have just got TB (still getting used to him, v different to the old horse).

Can anyone sugest any exercises to keep him between leg and hand? He tends to get stressy and shoot forwards rather than working correctly.
Im doing lots of circles/change of rein/leg yeiding.

I think its due to him not relaxing, so any ideas on getting him to chill too?
Having lessons with fab instructor, but bit skint so not as many as I would like.

Ride him on a long rein, let him unwind mentally and find his own balance. Push him forward, but not too fast, let him figure out a rhythm. This will make it much easier when you come to pick him up and ask him to work as he will have a calmer mind and better balance

I wouldn't panic about the shooting forward, if you let him go forward and then ask him to rebalance does he sort himself out? If he does then keep working that way and eventually he will get it - better to be forward thinking than stuffy.
Lots of walk/trot/halt work is always good, very short stretches of walk and trot to keep him thinking and not sure if the next transition will be up or down.
