A bit question

Henry's been really difficult out on hacks recently, even just walking up a path he was bucking and reared a couple of times too which is so not like him. I ride him in a happy mouth dutch gag http://www.saddler.co.uk/acatalog/ejhmk_th.jpg
but when I bought him he came with tack and that included another bit but with a metal mouthpiece. Should I try riding him out in the metal bit? I cant see it making a huge amount of difference but Im not sure why he has the happymouth in the first place, I just kept it as its what Henry's used to. Help would be much appreciated

In short I don't think this is a bit problem..look at back, teeth and feed..sorry if you have already checked these but you didn't mention them

i dont think its the bit sounds more like back or saddle id get them checked
