OH has finally got fed up with my pony collection and so a few have to go. I won't bore you with all their details, but this one is a difficult one to price.

The good points:

8 year-old Connemara type, full-up 14.2 (14.3 with shoes). Kind, sweet, gentle, honest, adorable etc. Good to catch, shoe, load, generally do, nervous to clip but working on him, got a serious jump but a bit green still. Hacks alone or in a group, hunts without pulling, pretty head, bottom of the herd in pecking-order so never gets himself into trouble. Done a bit of everything but low mileage due to lack of time. Ridden by 12-year-old and 15-year-old, could suit mother and daughter or family as will step up to the mark if required, or plod round block with a lead-rein in tow. A gentle pony.

The draw-backs:

Was half-starved as a 6-year-old (I bought him to rescue him) and possibly as a result has developed some allergies. Has mild sweet-itch easily controlled with good fly rug, various lumps identified as collagen necrosis by vet, a synovial swelling on the knee which is a blemish but not an unsoundness, and on a sunny day we use a nose-net. He has done half a dozen sponsored rides including RAF Halton jumping most of the obstacles (launched into orbit over the plane!) and never gone lame after but would be unlikely to pass vet I fear.

You couldn't wish for a nicer chap to have around, but he is too laid-back for my daughter.

Funny enough that's what I paid. Would like to get the same back but not sure how put-off people would be by his problems. It's a case of knowing him is loving him.

Hmmm he is a toughie. First of all a 14.3 is not a good advertisement size - too big for pony classes and too small to compete in horse classes so you have to decide hes either to be advertised as a full up 14.2 full stop or 15hh. I would go with 14.2 A he wouldnt pass the vert some insurance companies wont like it so that definately puts him under £3000 His blemish stops him from being shown so that drops his price too. But hes a quiet hack so maybe great as just a family plod, hmmm my guess would be £2000- £2300max

Thanks AmyMay, he is a cracking little horse! Love him to bits, bought him as I felt sorry for him (fatal!) and will probably try to sell a couple of the others rather than him so I can wait for the right home. But coming under pressure from OH who seems to think I am forming my own sub branch of Redwings here...

Good point about being 14.3, he will definitely be 148cm with shoes off so will go for that height, but wanted people to realise he is a massive pony, not one of those that's 14.2 going on 12.2!

I could loan him, but I have got quite a collection of 'interesting' ponies here and soon I will be divorced! I would like to free up some capital plus he could make someone a super PC pony and I would rather someone invested their own money in him, so they are more likely to look after him and invest the time he needs to make him special. I have another pony that I doubt I could sell (manic NF 13.2 jumping machine that you can't catch, felt sorry for him too!) so think that one needs the loan home more and I can't keep buying and giving away!

see my post above , just asking the same question, were looking for something a bit bigger but are very attatched to our pony who also had a bad start, lost her dam and was one of a big neglect case when she was 2.

My homebred Anglo Arab gelding was sold when I moved over here. Good to do pretty much anything with, super jumper, nice movement, 15.3hh (unfortunately) and beautiful to look at. He didn't have all of the things yours does, but he did have RAO which was easily managed and he also had a synovial swelling on one of his knees (due to romping around the field as a younger horse). He was 12 years old when I sold him and I advertised him for £1,500. Sold him within an hour of putting the advert up, however I made the buyer take him on a months trial so that I could get him back if it didn't work out. All worked out really well. I believed he was underpriced and that was my full intention. I had an awful lot of enquiries, but the first one was the most perfect lady, so he went to her.

mmm tricky one I paid 3k for my registered 14h 5yr old bombproof NF who passed a 5 stage vetting. He's a super hack but need working in the school and with his jumping.

Your pony is not registered and more importantly would not pass a vetting which would put people off. Sweet itch is a nuisance as you need special rugs and his blemishes mean that he can't show. I would say 2k.

Does his nose net in the summer mean he's a head shaker without it? As this will seriously reduce his price I would think - along with the sweet itch
