A crisis in Egypt. PLEASE READ

Hello Aces_High

thank you so much for all you are trying to do. I agree entirely that we need to educate as well as assits during times of crisis and unrest. The Brooke are being so blind or purposefully obtuse by continuing to insist that tourism is on the increase when it blatantly isn't - there is an uprising through all these arab countries - blimey there are even documentaries currently on British TV about it all, makes me so angry that they use this to shirk their responsibilities, i do hope people do what a lot of us have already done and send our monthly donation elsewhere. i donated by DD to The Brooke for years and years and they are so arrogant in the way they reply, with the SAME stock excuse - ITS NOT GOOD ENOUGH ANYMORE, horses are dying and they could help, even if they took JUST ONE of their MOBILE clinics to the ESMA horse feed and helped with advice but they even refuse to that small thing as well............... makes me cry with anger. Yes. PFK and ESAF are now set up to go into schools etc and I think that is the perfect place to start, its all about the next generation, however horses should not have to die when another 6 months of supplementary feeding may be enough for the situation in Cairo to turn itself around............ poor Lady Dorothy, she must be writhing in her grave at how The Brooke is behaving, disgraceful!!!!!

Marte has written a recent update on donations to help team PFK in specific. Here is what she writes.....

QUOTE: You can help a lot just by sharing and linking to this page, every new like helps us get more attention for these horses. We can receive donations by Paypal at snarfen@hotmail.com, and for those who would like to donate saddle pads etc, I will very soon have an address in Europe for you it can be sent to : ) (marte)

So if you want to send items to team PFK I will keep my eyes peeled for her to post the address on the FB page and share it. I have the utmost faith that any and all donations that reach team PFK directly will be put to extrememly good use.

Seeing what they personally have done this week with the saddle sore project next door says it all. Heartbreaking images but seeing them now being helped you cannot help but feeling hopeful. If you want to share PFKs page like she requests I will post this link again.....

WendyMc -

I totally agree about the ESMA horse feeds being needed and that another 6-12 months which isn't a long time at all would keep these horses alive and get them back up to being able to work for when the tourism does pick up.

Fabulous to hear that PFK and ESAF are setting up to go into schools to educate the next generation. It will be a long slow process. You only need to look in Africa when they were trying to educate on safe sex to help prevent the spread of AIDS. This again is affecting human life which to a lot of people and especially non animal people is where they feel their money should go. Unfortunately this wasn't the huge success story which they had hoped it to be and this was done by governments - not a small team of people who are following their hearts.

I just need to get onto my final draft letter to send to the bods around here.... I will be in touch with Colin before then so he can have a go through it so I am factually correct and I can hopefully get maximum inpact and a good bit of money to come off the back of it.

If anyone on here reading is travelling there ( please do so as it sounds like they need the tourism) may I suggest leaving some room in your suitcase and letting us know?

I'm going on holiday to Egypt in October. Is there anything I could take? I've emailed ESMA twice but had no response.

I've only just seen this thread and find it deeply disturbing. I have donated monthly to Brooke for many years and I'm disappointed by their attitude. I do also donate monthly to ESMA though not as much. I'm seriously thinking of cancelling Brooke donations and upping support for ESMA.

Are you a member of PFKs FB page? They are very good about responding and I would write on their wall telling them when you are coming and that you will have room in your suitcase to bring some things. I am not sure where you are going but maybe you would be able to drop it at the stables or someone could meet you to pick them up? If ESMA is not getting back to you I am sure someone from PFKs page will.

Now you're going to think I'm a dinosaur. I haven't a clue how to join/access Facebook. I will ask my daughter when I see her tomorrow.

If you do not want to mess with all the trouble of setting up a new facebook just let me know. I can act as a middle man and message on your behalf if you like. I can do this by private message too if you prefer.

For those of you who wanted to get items into Egypt for team PFK .

Marte posted on FB today that she has an address in Hungary for the next three weeks where items can be sent and the person will be bringing them over directly. If you wish to do this and are a member on PFKs page she is asking that you comment your desire to do so on todays post about it ( on team PFKs FB) or message her and she will get back to you with the details.

and Oliver12... I am still waiting to send a message for you but just need you to PM your email if that is ok. Not sure if you got my PM. :)

I've just had the address pm'd to me. would be good if we could organise a group effort thing :-)

Not a half idea for HHOers close to eachother. The poor friend offering to be the middle man and bring the stuff to Egypt may be sorry! lol

I got the address too and already ordered a bunch of haters/headcollars to send over so I am excited about that.

I also wonder if there may be a website to order from that ships directly to the Hungary address so more can be spent on items instead of double postage.

OK!!! The ladies found me a website that ships direct to Hungary :)

Lots of nice things on here although you may have to do some converting to figure out how much in the heck those items cost in your currency lol.

To find out her address to send them you need to ask for it on PFKs FB wall and it will be messaged to you :) She is heading to Egypt the end of the month so you may want to place it soon if you wish to help this way to make sure she has them with her to bring along.

I hope somone on here can afford to send off some of those gorgeous fluffy saddle pads they sell on this site.

please can you tell me where i can send spare headcollars, bridles, tack cleaning stuff to keep tack supple, vet stuff.Does anyone know if SPANA is helping as i sernd them money

Not read all the posts have read up to brooks reply.
All I can say is brookes reply re tourism is certainly not the case however I do agree with them by all accounts before the conflict horses were skin and bones at he pyramids.
My friend went there 2 years ago photographed the horses there as she was so shocked on their condition the photos I saw were just as bad then as they are now. She said she would not dream of riding any of them as they were just too thin!

A friend of mine travels their quite often, they are friends with some of the local horse owners. According to her the situation is dire. a lot of it is lack of knowledge and being unable to purchase decent equipment, if they could afford it.

When they go over I dont think they take much in the way of clothes etc. They use their luggage allowance for things like second hand Wintec saddles, bridles, bits and other items they buy over here which can improve the lot of the horses.

Forgot to say, the Wintecs have to have the narrower gullets

I follow esma on fb and they do an amazing job but are really constricted by lack of donations no t just financial ones. I'm happy to send items if it could be guaranteed to get to them

Yes, it's difficult to send stuff as I've been warned much of it won't make it to the destination! If you wish to donate products (halters etc) I am arranging with some online tack stores down here, to hold donated items t,hen send to me in bulk and we will take it all up with us.

Of course you don't know me from a bar of soap, but I can assure you that anything we have donated to us, will be going inour luggage and taken with us up to ESMA :-)
