Absolutely not too big! not in height or weight. Your pony could actually cope well with a bigger rider . What the customer said is absolute rubbish. I've been around horses for over 50 yrs so think know a bit about them. Ignore that customer and enjoy your pony.
I really think you can tell when you're too heavy. I tried a 13.2hh pony, fit and well-muscled, with a good amount of bone, who all the calculations said should have been perfectly comfortable carrying me. But even though he was still striding out happily and popping fences without a hitch, he just didn't feel quite *right*.
So now I'm riding a 17hh AndalusianX, because I apparently go from one extreme to the other.
Thanks so much for everyone's replies, I am aware of her fitness we are working on it you have all made me feel so much better about us though so thank you! I'll put an update up later on in the year hopefully you will see a difference but she is a cob, so will still be a chunk lol!
Oh yay, I remember a post about buying this cob, you both look fantastic. Maybe she is weighty, but I recollect she came like that and you are working on it, and you are working on fitness too. Have fun with your oldie!
She's doing fab although the sweetitch flared up way sooner than I anticipated, I now know they come out when the temp is above 12 degrees! I did ride in the field to do some hill work but my friends came in to jump so I thought I'd take her over the log... Lost all control of her and she galloped up the field, started copling down strait after glad she had a good run but gutted she pushed herself so much and gutted she ignored me! Got too excited it think! Add that to my short but growing list of things to work on! X
You look great! I am slightly taller and heavier than you (5'7" 65kg) and my mare is 14hh on her tip toes, but is a chunky cob with 9" of bone. I probably look a bit daft but I couldn't care less, and Dolly certainly doesnt struggle to carry me!
