I have a bit of a dilema, my current instructer and v.good friend told me today she's leaving after 6years at current yard, she has done an awful lot for the yard, raised the standards, started a PC and just generally been a great influence. She going to move her horse to a local yard that is run by a friend of hers who I know as she has come to fill in for teaching.
So that's the background. My other issue is that I go to uni in Spetember and am not planning on taking the beastie, I wasn't planning on leaving the beast at current yard for various reasons one of which is that I'm concerned that he will be over used in the RS, now as there is going to be a change of instructer I'm concerned that the whole atmosphere is going to change for the worse and that he will get even more RS work (atm he does about 8 hours a week over 4 days). On the other hand I've been there 9 years, although current instrucer has been there for 6 years)
So my options are:
To move him to other yard where instructer is going now (it is also a small RS but I would get more say in what he does)
To move him to other yard in September when I'm off to uni and just see how it goes at current yard

Thankies for advice

No rush- wait and see-
It was ok before she arrived, it may still be ok.
Also depends on the new yard,
go and visit her and see what its like there.
But keep is discreet in case there is any ill feeling developing between the two YO's!

I agree with the others, see how it goes, you never know you might get on really well with the new instructor, do you know her at all? If you're clear about what you want for your horse in the beginning you shouldn't have any problems. Does your instructor want you to move with her and will you still stay in contact/have lesson with her?

I agree with above - if there's no rush then wait and see what happens. There no point going thru the hassle of moving if u dont need to

Firstly wait and see what it is like, then if you decide to move do so before september so that you know that your horse is settled and you know how the place works also think hard about whether you want to move to your instructors new yard because by doing so you would be becoming very dependent on her especially if it is a small yard.

I'd wait and see for a while. Give the new instructor time to settle in and see what happens. Then if you're not happy, consider moving your horse to the yard you prefer. Things may work out after all.

We don't have a new one instructer yet...so am not sure what's going to happen. I was going to move the beast to this other yard anyway come September so it is a sort of coicidence that she is going to move there as well. All I'm thinking is that these changes are rarely smooth (we've been through them before and they weren't good) and as the whole atmosphere is going to change and the whole structure etc, would it just be worth moving now??
But I do think that your right and that I should try it for a bit to see. Thanks
