Hi everyone,

Everytime I have asked a question i have always had good sound advice. I cant afford to keep two horses any longer. So after 9 years I have to sell my old girl.

She really is the sweetest horse, very gentle and loving. She is a golden dun, sweet 16, excellent in all ways, 100% on roads, 15.3. Slight downside is that she is a cookie monster and a little over weight! Its very hard to put a price on an animal that you love. In my head I have a price that I would like for her, she will be sold with her full and extenstive wardrobe, tack, rugs, boots, headcollars.....

The reason I am asking how much is because someone on my yard and the girl that part loans her now are both interested. I would accept less for her to stay on the yard I am on now. I dont want to ask too much though and put them off, but if I dont sell her for a reasonable price I dont want to part with her. The reason for sale is just down to money, which makes it very difficult.

So what would you ask for?

I was thinking around 2000?

She is a very beautiful horse, she hasnt an impressive CV but we did win a trophy at the only show we ever did

She is just a dream horse in every way.

It sounds like she has a fab temperament - to me that is something you just cannot put a price on. What sort of things have you done together? From what you have said there I think you could ask for £3,000 very reasonably - particularly as she comes with a full wardrobe

Well, she has a low milage really. As sad as it sounds she has been my best friend for a long time ( tears welling)

She enjoys her hacks and we did the mary townly loop a few years ago, we do a bit of jumping. Its more for fun than anything, she is a very fun horse. She is a super horse, and i dont really want her to go. So I would like her to stay on my yard so I can give her sneaky cuddles when noone is around lol.

In the future when I am more settled ( about to start a PGCE this sept so living off a show string) I would buy her back, if the person ever wanted to sell.

I really feel for you hun - it is so hard selling a horse you love

At least if she does go the person on your yard or the girl who part loans her you will still be able to see her and hopefully they will honour your wishes by offering you first refusal if they ever want to sell her

TBH Laura, that's exactly the price I was thinking when I read your original post. Best of luck, she sounds lovely.

Well for a 16 year old happy hacker, however good and bombproof I'd say less than 2K esp if you want her to stay close to you although people seem to hop from yard to yard for fun these days - I'd say 1600 with all her stuff. If she can do local shows and jump to say 2ft 6 and do other bits and bobs then maybe 2K

But 16 (dont care what people say lol) is getting on a little bit, not no where near over the woods like but its still getting on, even if she ' doesnt act her age' or 'doesnt look it'.

Also you may have to put her for less in the current hideous market to get rid. What about a full loan???

Very best of luck she sounds ace xxxx
