A & E is no longer free!!

Got charged at West Suffolk for medication for chest infection. Think it's new there though as never happened before. If actually admitted to EAU or a ward - take home meds become free!

We have a small hospital in town and most people use it as and out of hours GP practice. Most people go in for sore throats, earache etc. I heard one of the receptionists at my practice telling someone else that everytime one of their patients goes to A & E the practice is charged £70 per visit.

A few years back, I went to A & E, turned out I had cellulitis! Thought my leg was gonna drop off! Anyhow, they brought me antibiotics and said I could choose to pay or not-there was a box to put money in. Weird. I was very grateful at the time, so I emptied all my loose change into it.

Postcode lottery? :(

In Ireland, the government are a hungry shower of b*****ds, so it's €100 to go to A&E, regardless of health insurance, medical cards etc.. You'd really want to have a limb hanging off to go in this country!!!!

so what happens in an emergency if you dont have 100 euros????

Whenever I've been to A and E and needed painkillers, they usually ask me if I have some at home or can get some from pharmacy/supermarket as it'll be cheaper than them writing me out a prescription for the same stuff and having to pay £7.

Nice of them!

Pretty standard me thinks.
