Hey :)

1. any one got any remmondations of thick stable rugs under £60?
as ebs rug is just in pieces :rolleyes:
2. build up cubes any good for horses that drop weight in winter?
she having 2 scoops of alfa a oils a day[one in morning one in evening]1 and 1/2 scoops of mix a day and 1 scoop of speedy-beet a day? and has bit of weight in the last week? so need to act fast :rolleyes::confused:

OP:
1. Horseware Amigo, Masta Regal, some Weatherbeetas, loads really.
2. I would stick to fibre and oil diet, I feed my poor doer Supreme Grass chaff, Outshine and fibre cubes, he also gets a bucketfull of sugar beet in his stable over night to munch on alongside his haynet.
 
1. Saxon rugs are also good and cheap
2. I'd up the amount of alfa a oil you're giving her and add some fibrebeet or equivelent. My poor doer has 5 scoops of alfa a oil (split into 2 feeds) plus 3 scoops (soaked) of dengie alphabeet. She has ad lib hay and haylage when she is in, but is currently living out as the grass is good. She is doing really well on this mix.
 
1. I have just bought a double duvet on amazon for £7 and it's one that can be tumble dried/washed :D (Go through my old threads, I started one on it)
2. Lots of people swear by Saracen Equijewel but I feed lucie cobs (soaked) Alfa A Oil (like you) with extra oli and a bit of mix. Baileys blancer is pretty good too but I reckon the best way is ad lib forage ;)
 
Hiya hope your healing up ok.

Have you tried giving a 3rd feed at lunch time of just topping up on the feed you already giving her, that can really help. And defo as much hay as she will eat. Make sure you dont finish up to early in the evening so that she has hay througout the night that can make quite a big difference in weight.

Ruds- if you dont mind what colours try equestrian clearance or rideaway do some great deals on brand and non brands but sometimes there just in the brighter colours but aslong as there warm colours dont really matter!!

Haylage can be a good option but just be carefull shes not getting to much protien, it can cause rashes, leg swelling and make them sharp.

Am I right in thinking that Ebs is a bit of a fizzy girl? You could try Calm and Condition. You don't add any sugar beet to it as it has quite a large amount already in the mix. You have to add water and leave it for 10 minutes first. You just need to add your Alfa A Oil to it. Shouldn't add any fizz.
But remember the weather is starting to change, so the horses will feel the cold a bit more and start to lose weight anyway after the summer bloat....
Regarding rugs, I had always been told to avoid Masta ones, but when I got one second hand which fitted my mare like a glove, I'm totally converted, and they tend to be under £60. What size is she? I might have something for you which will be well under your £60.
 
Oh sorry, mine is going to be way to big for her......have a look on Townfields Saddlers site. They had loads of sale stuff on really cheap the other night and lots in 5'9"..

Is there another livery that would chuck her a lunch time feed in if you left a bucket outside her stable?

Or maybe give her a small one when you arrive from school, do all your jobs stable ect while its digesting and then ride then give her dinner, you dont need to put alot of hard feed in it or make it massive?
 
Oh no i wasnt suggesting moving yards to get her a lunchtime feed!! Oh ok shes in the field fair enough, erm even if you gave her a 1/2 to 1 scoop of alfa-oil would help, its better for horses to eat there feed split into smaller feed as there stomach is small and they can digest it better. When its cold is she still out full time? Could you hay in the field once the grass has no quaility? that would help with weight too.

As the others have said though conditioning cubes do workwell too, you could put them in one of those balls that allows a few nuts at a time that way she wating them slowly and not getting it all in one big feed?
 
ohh right no my livery that helped me with everything left last week :/ most people are on part livery so cant really ask? :/ could i just add that extra 1 scoop to each feed?
new yard i think i can turn out in winter no idea yet :) but if no grass wil get hay in field and she had them conditioning cubes and started of her muscle cramps? [begins with A]? sorry cant remeber so we didt want to go back to them just incase

Ah thats a shame about the other livery leaving.
Yer if shes out, you could just add the alfa-a oil into her normal feeds , at least they hay in the winter that will help with keeping the weight on as when the weather really rubbish they dont get much goodness from the grass.

Ah she get Azatoria (probaly spelt wrong LOL) that was probaly the barley in the condtioning cube, no dont try again then.

If shes just lost a little i would add half a scoop alfa-a oil into her feeds and moniter her, you mind find she levels out a bit as they tend to get worked a bet less once the nights start drawing in and its wetter colder ect.

I would also be carefull of haylage if shes had Azatoria as its got quite a high protein content.
