My field has been rested all winter, and now with the rain its shot up and looking very long and lush. My young cobs will be moving back as soon as i have repaired the fence. Now, my concern is i maybe getting a little pony on loan for my daughter and was a bit concerned about all my grass - even my baldy poor part of the field is looking lush. Pony maybe coming next weekend. I was planning on sectioning the pony off for a short while from the others to start with and plan was to put pony in baldy bit. So i guess my concern is lush grass + chubby pony may = laminitus!!!

Is it the sensible thing by partitioning field off and just give restricted grazing to pony and only move fence back once field is looking poor? Hoping to have pony exercised at least 4 times per week for 30 mins per session to keep him active.

Do you think he will be okay whilst he is grazing down the lushy bits for a week or so if he is being exercised?

Am paranoid about lami!!
Thanks :o:o

Mine have been on restricted grazing since March. Feed some hay so there is some dry forage in their system before they go out on the grass.

Personally would definitely put a grazing muzzle on to restrict grazing- better to be safe than sorry. Friend got a pony in November and it got laminitus when put in a lush field, even at that time of year.
