After our disastrous attempt (or rather non-attempt) at an eventer trial a few weeks ago, me and Murphy are off to a local show tomorrow to do a few clear rounds and maybe the 1ft9 Beginners & Nervous class

I've never done a jumping class at a show before, and have only done 2 clear rounds away from home, so I'm new to this and have a few questions:

Will boots and chaps be OK (boots are casual type riding boots, not jodhpur boots)?

Do I need to have my hair in a hair net or is a pony tail/bun OK?

I'm hacking there - first time I've hacked to a show and when we box to a show I take everything but the kitchen sink, I'm thinking this timke I don't really need to take anything (just me, pony, camera, money, phone, friend for shoulder to cry on

)?

Am I allowed to duct-tape myself to the saddle? Realistically that's probably the only way I won't fall off...

Any other tips?

oooo and pretty please could you cross your fingers that my friend, who has never been to a show before, gets a clear round? She's going to have a go on Murphy and I really want her to get a rosette!

yes those boost will be fine as long as you can ride in them
your hair would be fine just in a ponytail
as long as you have the pony in the correct tack and boots if you use them and you have everything you need you will be fine to hack there...i always hack to my shows

hahaha sorry no duct tape allowed!!!!
walk the course one then stand at the side and say it to yourself just before you go into the ring oh and look for the scary fences before you go into the ring

most of all have fun and good luck!!

I agree with the showjumperatheart, good luck, I hope the weather is super, really enjoy it, make sure there is a place to offer the horses water and remember to buy an ice cream just before you set off for home!!

This may sound silly but all my shows have always been a disaster so now I go with the intention of only warming up. If you go with the intention of just warming up and popping the practice fence then anything else will be a bonus.

I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Smile smile smile! Find a point beyond every jump to look at to stop you looking down at the jump, I look down esp if it is a bit scary and George usually obliges by stopping to have a good look!

Anyway good luck!

Thanks guys, all sounds like excellent advice and I will be following it all...espesh the bit about the ice cream as I am walking back so my friend can ride Murphy
