Roxy

I posted in picture gallery a few days ago, a few pics of my girls and Mlillie's puppies and that i had decided to keep a little girl, asking for name suggestions.
In the end i have decided on Roxy, so thought it was about time to introduce her properly.

I love weims, I like viszlas and german pointers as well. Would any of them be suitable to leave alone for a few hours a day during the week as I work full time? Sorry to hijack your post but seeing your girls reminds me how much I love them

Lovely dogs: ridiculously cute as pups, and so striking as adults. We met a Weim at the vet the other day who'd tested positive for Lyme. He had to be rested--completely, for two weeks--and was just about bouncing up to the roof. My wee Stella was very impressed with him

Prose - thats a typical weim if they have not been out for a while they are like excited little children.

Samantha - I find that they are fine to leave for upto about 4-5 hours a day but it is best to have them in a dog crate as they will chew. but they do grow out of that, millie can now be left out of her crate but it did take 3 years to get to that stage lol

I'm sure they're worth all the work. It seems that more and more people use crates these days? My mum doesn't like the idea but I'm sure if she saw the distruction puppies could make she would warm to the idea very quickly lol.

Thanks for the reassurances. Your girls are so beautiful!

Its funny sometimes i will notice that one of the dogs is missing, and when i go looking for then i find then in their crate asleep. It is their personal place and they are very happy to be in there. And before i got a crate my house was ripped apart by them.

Which size crate do you use? At petsathome they have several different sizes assembled for you to see and the biggest I would assume must cater for the xlarge breeds ie great dane, st bernard etc. weims are fairly big but would they generally have the next size down?

My dogs used to love their crates, although I don't use them for adults. My old GSD used to squeeze herself into the little Lancs heelers crate, heavens knows how, I always had visions of needing the fire brigade to extract her! Have already got a crate lined up for the new puppy, they make house training etc so easy as long as you don't abuse their use.

sorry to ask a stupid question but what do you mean by abuse their use? Do you mean not to leave them in there all the time?

Yes. The Humane Society recommends crating for no more than five hours at a time. I crated Stella overnight when she was a pup, but she never needed it otherwise--she was a good girl who never chewed and housetrained quickly.

A crate is a must for my sister in law's dog, though. She chews everything in sight if you leave her--even if she's been out running in the woods/swimming in the river. But again, they don't leave her in there all day (as some people do, believe it or not, when they're out at work for 8-9 hours).
