Hi everybody!

As said in the tittle, I'm a french rider and I want ti practice my english. What better way than talking about horses with english people?

After high school, I spent one year in england as an au pair. It was 10 years ago, so my english is a bit rusty.
Durinf that year, I also had the opportunity to go everyday to a stabble to help to take care of the horses and... to ride of course!
That's how I discovered hackneys (very unusual in my contry) and friesen horses.
I had very good moment with all of them, and I really enjoy living in England. But my beloved Bellinda (see my avatar) was waiting for me at home.

I use to reed "horses and hounds" when I was in england so... that's why I choose this forum!

Hello and welcome, I'm actually Scottish but assume that counts too ;) Whereabouts in France do you live? Do you still have Bellinda?

The forum is great; I hope you will soon feel at home :)

PS I have the chestnut in my signature - he's a Belgian wb

Hello rhino!
I live in Britany, so I'm not that far...and I'm not exactly french, but breton, that is way better!

Of course, I still have Bellinda. She is 22 now, but still very... enthusiastic! :D
I met her 13 years ago, and bougth her 3 years after... quite a long way together!

Our speciality is to do silly things. We like to experiment watever come into my mind. And I have plenty of imagination!

But now, I'm also a groom for cariage horses. They are not to heavy horses (not like shire or percheron), so I also ride them. They are "cob normand", a typical french breed.

(please, if I make to much mistakes in english, tell me, I'm here to improve! thanks)

Bellinda sounds great - and quite like my boy who is 20 but still an idiot at times (owned him 12 years). We do a bit of everything as well but our favourite is le trec/BHS trec.

And don't encourage me to look for mistakes - I'm a teacher so it comes naturally and I have to be conscious of not correcting people on here (although to be fair your English is obviously great and far, FAR better than my French)

I'm sure there will be plenty of people along later to welcome you too :)

Thank you!

Your chestnut looks gorgeous! You must enjoy yourself with it! :)

This is my Bellinda:

Hello Erzie, welcome to the forum, pleased to meet you. I have two horses, a cob cross mare called Jess and a new forest pony. Belinda is very pretty, I love the photo.

Enjoy the forum :)

Bienvenue! Super little horse you have there - I'm intrigued about what you are doing in the picture and the look on her face is really funny! It all looks very 'correct', whatever it is.

Any more photo's of you and her?

Fantastic photo. I've always fancied having a go at Skills at Arms :) Though perhaps not on my boy as he couldn't even cope with the 'fishing' game at an adult's gymkhana I did - was so funny; I've never seen a horse move sideways that quickly - he thought the fish was chasing him :D

First of all, welcome, hope you have fun on the forum.

Bellinda looks lovely. You can see from the photos she has spirit and that mischief is never all that far away. No wonder you have fun.

You're English is very good, there are only minor spelling mistakes - title, stable, whatever and carriage (before I get crucified Erzie asked to be corrected so she can improve) - so you're already proving to be better at the language than a lot of us "natives" on here:D

Hello everybody and thank you for the welcoming! :)

Tristar, it was a sort of garrocha attempt yes. A bit improvisated, with a spear we made for a costume with a friend.
But I'm not into doma vaquera. I thought this photo was a good illustration for what I meant by "Our speciality is to do silly things. We like to experiment watever come into my mind" :D

We also tried a bit of dressage

We really suck à jumping! :D (that's with a friend, but it's even worse with me)

We are better at long rein

I even tried to put a steering wheel on her

But her speciality is being naughty! (she was supposed to WALK in the water) :p

She is beautiful! Nice to see someone else throwing caution to the wind and being silly with their horses. Too much health and safety these days ; )

Your English is very good!! Much, much better than my French!

Being silly with my horse... yeah, that's exactly me! :D
I have hundreds of photos of Bellinda and I doing funny stuff. And videos too!

Thank you for my english. I didn't think it was too bad anyway, but It's good to practice a bit.

For the moment, I read the others threads, but I lack technical vocabulary to really participate. But I'll try!

And here are the other horses of my universe... I call them "the roudoudous"

Here are Oligo and Java:

Ca va Erzie, Bellinda is a lovely horse, she looks very versatile.

I like the cobs at your workplace too. Where in Brittany are you? I have been to Brittany on holiday, once to Deauville a few years ago and also many years ago when I was a child but I can't remember where. I went riding many years ago on the beach and in the sand dunes. We also took the horses swimming!

We have an apartment in the french alps in Chatel, I like to be able to practice my french sometimes. I am not good at writing/speaking french but can understand it quite well. Your english is much better than my french.

They are "cob normand", it's a breed of heavy horses. We don't mean the same thing in France and in England when using the word "cob" and it can be a bit confusing.

Bellinda is an anglo arab and Viza and Doudou are "trotteurs français".

I live in Morlaix, in the Finistere.
To improve a language, I think the best way is to go to the country! But reading and writing help as well. But french is a difficult language.

Welcome to the forum Erzie! What lovely pictures, I especially like your horse Bellinda :)

If you don't understand something in a thread, just ask what it means! I'm sure everyone will be happy to explain what's going on.

You are so lucky to live in France, such a wonderful place.

Welcome! Bellinda is gorgeous as are the lovely horses you work with (Ilove the name Doudou for a horse!).

Your English is great, I am so envious, I wish my French was half as good!

Welcome to the forum!

Wow you have some beautiful horses. And some beautiful places to ride, I went to La Baule a few months ago and couldn't help but imagine how lovely it would be to gallop along a beach which isn't made of mud! :p

Is she really 22? She looks smashing for her age. :)

Hello and welcome!

What wonderful pictures and horses - so versatile! Your english is fantastic.

I spent a couple of years in France - a year as an au pair and a year as an assistante. I could do with another one - my french is awful compared to how it used to be!!

Enjoy the forum.

Welcome to the forum. :)
It can get a bit lively in here, especialy if something causes an argument, but stay with it, it's worth it!
I love your black driving horses, they look very smart!

Don't worry, I'm quite used to "lively forums"! :D
And, thank you for Oligo and Java! I'll tell them.

Honey, I've never been in Tarascon, but, of course, I know Paris. Not as beautiful as Brittany, but there are a few things to see there. :p

I use to be an au pair near Northampton, in a little village.

One of the thing I liked the most in England was the way people in cars respect the horses and riders on the road. French drivers don't care about horses, they have no idea of their reactions.
