My cat TC and my guinea pig Phineas have a lovely friendship. Thought I would share how they spend a lot of their time together

Phineas is a bit of a victim. He came to me because he had been bullied by a pig at his previous home. Then he got bullied by the pig I got him to be companion to, so they ended up being separated.
When I suddenly and unexpectedly lost that pig, I opted to see how Phin got on on his own, as he seemed to have problems interacting with other pigs and I didn’t want another situation with having to separate him and another friend.

Within a couple of weeks, my cat TC, who is a gentle soul, started hopping in and sitting/sleeping next to Phin. A friendship was born. I regularly find them together. It’s an open top cage so TC just comes and goes as she pleases and Phin loves her visits 🥰

One of my sisters had Guinea pigs, she’s much younger than me. I had moved back home temporarily with my cat, when I was about 19/20; my sister had opened the Guinea pig cage, and left it open, unknown to me. I had been looking for the cat everywhere (I think we hadn’t been there long, so I was worried she’d escaped and got lost). Walked into the utility and spotted the open cage 😱 dashed over and there she was… loafing with the Guinea pigs, purring her head off. It was the days before smartphones, it would have made a cracking photo though, very similar to yours!

My cats have grown up around small furries since they were kittens so they are very kind and gentle. I used to be able to have the cats and my hamster on the bed together. The cats would just sleep while the hamster mooched about. I used to post pictures on FB of them and everyone would be stunned at how unbothered my cats were having small rodents around them 😅

My dogs are Guinea pig proof too (obviously I’d not leave them unattended!) and everyone was tortoise proof when Tia was alive.

Mine had not grown up with small fluffies - but she was an absolutely appalling hunter (thankfully). I once caught her stalking… a slug 🤦‍♀️

I had a cat who used to bring me moths and worms. She never caught a bird or mouse!

Infact one of my current cats brought me a moth a while ago while I was in bed at night. I’m not a big fan of moths, and he promptly walked in (making that weird ‘I’ve got you a present’ noise), jumped on the bed and deposited said moth on my chest. I’m not sure who flapped more, me or the insect! Mouse or rat, no problem, but I draw the line at moths!
