How many of you canter 20m circles, do you think they are particularly difficult to do?
None of mine have ever found it particularly difficult, yes the projects when unbalanced babies couldn't do it initially, but once they had the basics and could canter round the school a circle was not really anything terribly difficult...
 
I dont think they are particularly difficult, except if your school is only 15m wide, when it becomes a right bugger

I actually find cantering my share mare in a circle is better than cantering in her in a straight line, as she stays soft and doesn't try to rush off, but this is a schooling issue....!

I am intrigued though, why do you ask?
 
Mine can canter round the school all day, but still struggles with a 20m circle

They're easy to do badly, but very hard to do accurately, especially if you have a horse that tends to fall in, out, or backs off the leg and bridle

Ellie used to find it very difficult without breaking, but as she has become more muscled and supple, she doesnt have a problem (although you didnt ask about 'cantering a 20m circle in a nice outline - now THAT is a different story

I was once told you should never trot your horse in anything less than a 20m circle until you had let him/her have a good canter on a circle on each rein. Has anyone else ever been told this?

It has been said that cantering a 20m circle is very difficult and something only very good horses can do... any horse out at competition I would expect can canter a 20m circle, and there are hundreds of them out there!
