Ok, how much should I advertise this one for? He's lovely, a 15hh reg. conne gelding, 5 yrs, and rides very nicely indeed, has the softest mouth ever and really nice person to boot. Hacks out well, but is a little spooky but will soon grow up and get over this. HOWEVER, he has a lot of fluid on his left hind leg at the bottom of the cannon, he's 100% sound, will pass flexions and trots sound on a hard 10 m circle. Had our vet look over him today and he thinks its a bursar (sp?) and shouldn't affect him too much but recomended that we keep the jumping to a min as he wouldn't want it knocked about (which is a shame as this pony has a HUGE jump) as it may get larger if further damaged. He would possibly make a nice little dressage pony or happy hacker and I will hunt him also. So what would you say he would be worth? i'm stumped as to what people would pay for a horse with a blemish like this, anyone viewing would be welcome to talk to my vet and have it scanned at their own expense. He would be without a doubt a very expensive pony if he didn't have this swelling!

A total guess, but perhaps £1,500. I'm not sure many people would want to get him scanned at their own expense. Unfortunately with the thousands of "bargain" horses for sale I think even though he may remain sound, the swelling would put a lot of people off, partly as it will be excluded from any insurance. He sounds lovely and I hope you find a good home for him soon.

I would have it scanned yourself to fully establish what it is. Then if it is harmless you can say it is and up the price.

Don't worry I will fully vet homes for him, none of my lot go to the wrong people! He's way too nicer pony for that. To be honest my vet today said that he thinks its harmless (we have a livery on the yard with the same thing also but on front leg) and scanning it would be peace of mind but £300 and I really would just like to find a nice home for the pony that won't overdo things with him so his money isn't important. But I don't want to underprice him as I think someone will abuse him (ie hammer him and jump him hard) for too little money. I might even consider loan with view to buy for the right people to ensue his future.

I would say scan him yourself, as I'm not paying £300 out for something my vet says is fine. Not for the money i'll be asking for the pony anyway.
