Hello!

I haven't posted fir a wee while, kind of lost my mojo and just been hacking so have gave myself a boot up the bum!

The last show we went to was at the start ifMay and the judge told me to take the horse to everything I can, well we haven't been to anything since apart from one fun ride which he loved, though to be fair he hurt his back and then cut his leg open! Our local agricultural show was on Saturday and literally five minutes away so I decided to go down and do the riding horse class. The object of the day was to take him in the trailer (he doesn't loader travel particularly well) and gas a nice calm day, he gets sooooo tense when we go out. So off we went, he came in from the field was cleaned up, saw the trailer and was really excited to be going out (success as 6 months ago I had to chase him round the stable to catch him as he didn't want to go in the trailer, would need persuaded in and would stand and shake) he walked out the stable, stopped at the bottom of the ramp, then wandered in and started eating his hay! Tbh I was ready to unload and leave it at that lol, duly trundled down the road - I had a cheek to trailer him as I could have hacked but it was all experience! Got there expecting a sweaty pony, not a bit and stood for 40 mins in the trailer withn the ramp down munching his hay (again I would have gone home at that lol). Unloaded him, tacked up (he doesn't like his saddle going on when he's away from home for some reason) got on and he was a wee bit tense but fine, really interested in his surroundings! I took him into the class with his normal tack and bridle so knew we wouldn't get anything as he was dressed wrong but it was experience, the class itself was carnage, 11 in it and every man for themselves, we walked, trotted and cantered, didn't look pretty but who cares. Stood in the line for the individual shows, came out and done his show, then stood to be untracked, run up for the judge and tacked up again (he was very interested in e Clydesdales next door at this point lol). After my class I just came home, he messed about for 2 minutes then walked up the ramp!

So successful points

He loaded really well
We walked trotted, cantered and galloped (last show I took him to he was to tense to canter so I was really pleased)
I did it all by myself.

I can't boast of rosettes or anything, but what I can say is we achieved what we set out to, we went, enjoyed ourselves, small horse looked like he was having a great day and having gone myself I fel lots more confident and feel like I can start to go to a bit more without relying on other people to help.

I'm really pleased, but think I will try a wee calmer when I next take him out as he is still a wee bit tense under saddle. All in alla good day though! Ay tips for relaxing him much appreciated!

Well done - sounds like a very positive outing.
I think the more he gets out, the more relaxed he'll become.
Other than a calmer, maybe think about arena hires so he gets used to working away from home? If he enjoyed the fun ride, why not do a few more so there's no pressure on him to 'perform' as such?

My lot used to be on their toes the minute they saw the lorry but now they're so used to going out, they don't even bat an eyelid.

Good luck for your next trip.
