I have a Wahl clipper, a bit slow but very quiet, attaching the blades is a bit tricky, but you will find they will do the job.
I have the standard blade and the competition blade which gives a really fine cut and is good for tricky corners.
Look on ebay for good clippers, be aware that the well known makes will be easly serviced, but if you keep your clippers clean and dry and don't let them overheat in use they should not need much servicing.

Hi Alex,

All these are Chinese copies of the Heinegar style machine similar to the Handy, IMHO they are not well made and usually come with inferior blades made of recycled steel. You will tend to find these type of machines are often sold by "E Bay" sellers who may not be there tomorrow. As usual my advice would be, you get what you pay for! Why not consider sharing the cost of some better clippers between some friends and then at least you will all have access to some good ones and you can share the running costs.

I bought some masterclip ones a couple of years ago and they have been fine (although they are due to be serviced!) I assume the company is still around - I know they had a stand at Burghley last year.

I think mine were somewhere between £100 - £150? I think they are more expensive now though. They are quite noisey, and heavy. but I have clipped quite a few horses with it no problem. They managed to get through my TB's yak winter coat, but if you were doing a very hairy cob I might have needed something more powerful.

I got some Liveryman's last year for 160. Though we split the cost between three of us so that they were cheaper!
They work well and I need to get them all fired up for this year. I can't remember the make but brought them from Robinsons. They got through my Welsh's thick hair, my friends Gypsy Vanner's even thicker hair and did the TB's so very versatile and strong, with good blades. It didn't matter if the Gypsy cob was a little dirty around the feathers either! :)
Splitting costs really does help in the long run.
