Well, yesterday was the last day of point-to-pointing for our horses and we had a very good day.
My horse and one of my bosses horses were in the same race and they finished 3rd and 4th(mine, but it was very close
). Ok, so there were only six in the race, but with all the problems I've had with my lad this season, and the ground was much firmer than he likes, I'm over the moon. I fell off him a few times this season (my fault, will be working on my position with some very experienced people for next season), and he's had recurring ulcers in one of his eyes, which he had lots of time off for as they were so painful that he'd be hiding in the back of his stable with his eye closed. I didn't ride him myself for various reasons, but at least I now know he still enjoys his job and I'm not completely useless as a trainer. My boss rode his first ever winner this season, but sadly our very promising young horse (some of you may remember I asked for advise about his jumping a few months back) damaged a tendon very badly in his 2nd race and was put down a few weeks back.
It broke my heart and I cried lots, because he was such a nice horse to work with and he showed a lot of promise in his first race (jumped like an old pro too).
Back then I felt like roughing the horses off there and then, and maybe even give up completely.
Yesterday made up for at least some of the stuff that happened this season and I can look toward next season more positively.
Oh, I'm also looking at a potential new horse one day this week, I must be mad.
But if I decide to have him it'll be for a very reasonable price, and he may just turn out quite good for pointing (or he might be completely useless
)
Anyway, after finishing the season on a good note yesterday, I'm going to enjoy my nice easy summer, go on holiday and look forward to bringing the horses back in work in August.
Sorry about the pretty pointless post, but just felt I wanted to share.
Cheers,
Jasmin.
