As all you other breeders know, breeding can be a bloody hard slog at times.....well a lot of the times........but when you get an email with the following in it.......well it really makes it all worth while......

This was an email I received last night from the lady who purchased our black colt this year (he arrived with her on Monday evening of this week):

An update on Casino. We tried a rug on with no problems, so we have bought him his very own little rugs.

He gives me kisses over his stable door, he is just so affectionate and I can't believe just how attached I am already and couldn't be parted from him. He is so special and grabs your heart. Thank you for giving me my little gem......

When you get updates like this it really keeps your passion alight and makes you realise that perhaps you are not doing too bad a job afterall..........

Thanks for your comments, Casino was a real cracker, and we had quite a bond with him, more so because he was by our deceased stallion Geneve. He has such a HUGE personality with a real zest for life and we are just soo pleased that he has gone to such a great home. The lady takes great photos, so we are hoping for plenty of updates......

He is one of 5 we sold this year, and we have received similar messages about the rest as well, which is very pleasing for us......makes it all worthwhile.....

What a lovely email - bet you had areal grin on your face after reading it (and a small sad moment that he's not with you anymore)
I feel so lucky that almost all the people who have bought our foals have become good friends so I can share in their development.

Yes we had a smile to our face and a tear in our eyes...in fact we had a tear in our eyes when he left.........

I am with you.........we have made so many friends through the sales of our foals and youngsters. In fact two girls who have purchased two foals from us are just a god send now during the summer with helping us with all our foals........

..........we also have several others that come to the stud and help out when they can........

Well done :-) And that was exactly what I was going to say.

Are you (or have you) retained any RG colts to grow on and produce for grading yourselves in the future? Presenting your own home bred colt is a real thrill :-)

Thanks Ciss........we have one RG colt who is coming 2 and still entire, out of a 3/4 sister to Opportunity B. He is for sale but we are not in a huge rush to sell him. Casino is top class but we were unsure as to whether he would make the height we were looking for, which was why we decided to sell him.

This is one of the reasons we have purchased better and better mares, so that we have some very good mares lines that we can cross with the remaining frozen semen we have of RG.

We only have one mare in foal to him this year, and hope to put 1-2 in foal in 2008. We have one daughter of RG that we retained (after selling her to SA and then cancelling the sale after we lost RG), she was the top filly of 2005. So she goes in foal next year, although we are still deciding who to use.

Great to hear these updates are appreciated by breeders in general - I do try and send some to Delphipuppy now & again about my boy who she bred
