After citing all the reasons why I am delighted to see the end of TB, it struck me that under this government civil partnerships have been introduced. It is shameful it has taken so long to give co-habiting same sex couples the opportunity to have the same rights as straight couples, and a welcome piece of legislation.
 
I think all they have done with this sort of legislation is to uindermine family life. Not particularly against the mentioned legislation, just feel that families are not good vote getters, so seem to be sidelined.

I disagree. Couples of mixed sex who co-habit are able to be each other's next of kin, and have the same rights as married couples to some degree. This has never been a right for same sex couples. I fail to see how giving one part of society the same rights as another undermines anything.
 
I do not see how they have undermimed family life? surely my family is just as important as the next. YOUR vote is just as important as everyone elses. make a vote, and make a change
 
there are certain religious aspects to this legislation (not taking sides here - just commenting) as some religious groups find single sex partnerships unacceptable.

At TB is a Catholic I query whether this is an "isn't TB wonderful" moment - or merely an example of TB subverting his religious beliefs to buy votes
 
I am merely pointing out that it is somewhat cynical of him !!
(or after dodgy dossiers, dodgy investigations into David Kelly's death, dodgy days to bury bad news and dodgy decisions on Iraq that TB is generally 'dodgy' and won't have anything like the "greater good" in his mind - merely what HE and his grasping wife can make out of it !!!)
 
civil partnership is about the only good thing this government has done!
however they have also effectively destroyed family life.
Did you know it is more tax efficient to be devorced/seperated then it is to be married, and you get more benefits if your a single parent. so much for encouraging families!
 
Well he has cynicism down to a fine art! I believe he is a recent convert to RC, so you can only admire his selfless abandonment of his personal beliefs.

As for his lovely humanitarian lawyer wife, I simply cannot wait to see her on the American Strictly Come Dancing or whatever they call theirs. Apparently Cherie has two left feet, but Heather Mills has five!

if anything, for me it is a good thing he hasnt let his religious beliefs interfere with his job, as i certainly dont think the two should go anywhere near each other!

surely he's done more good than this one thing soots?!

and you get b-awl if you are a pensioner or single person (esp. those caring for elderly parents or relatives).
in fact - after 10 years of NL - you get a LOT less 'cos of Gorgon Brown robbing pension funds of 5 billion quid a year

family tax credits are a joke as they are almost entirely taken back in other stealth taxes, the winter fuel allowance has actualy been cut in tony blairs time and doesnt actualy cover anywhere near the cost of feul.
thats why we have elderly people dieing of hypothermia in thier own homes, they wont provide enough money for care homes to opperate properly (hoestly you cannot get a hotel room with 3 meals a day, 24 hour nursing care and all extras for less then £30 a day) and you cant access funding for care unless you have under 25k in assets or cash so most have to sell the family home to get funding.
He has closed all the council run nursing homes so there is a national bed shortage, the hospitals are overflowing as these elderly that need nursing care are filling the beds in the hospitals, and whilst were at it the closure of hospitals and hospital bed realy isnt helping the situation.
The raiding of pension schemes, can you live, pay rent and bills as well as food and drink for less then £90 a week? i cant and i dont need the heating on all the time!
his blatent disregard for the elderly is something im realy pationate about. i find it absolutely disgusting!
 
The Irish peace process, the economy and the winter fuel allowance were all in place (although the peace process was not very advanced) when NL came to power. Family tax credits are a mess, and the minimum wage is a joke.
 
ten years ago = No minimum wage
Now = £5 + (can't remember the exact figure, but know its over a fiver an hour!)

No, not really. The minimum wage has forced some businesses to close, and worse still is used by employers as a guide for suitable payment. Nobody could actually live on the minimum wage, so it is pointless.
 
I know plenty of people who live on the minimum wage (and below, my brother is a taxi driver and after paying settle, tax, petrol etc, he earns much less per hour)

Sounds like a no win situation with you, you say it's too little to live on, yet so high its putting people out of business? What do you suggest, then?
 
Your brother may be an exception, although it may be that he doesn't include tips in his calculations, or that he works more than the standard working week. Yes, it is an irony of the minimum wage that it is not enough to live on (for most people), yet it is still too much for some employers to pay. I would suggest allowing employers to pay what they can afford, particularly when they are starting a business. The minimum wage is also set at £3.30 an hour for 16-17 year olds, which is not too bad if they are working part-time whilst studying, but again, not enough to live on and many students are exploited by only being paid the minimum wage whilst working unsocial hours. I have no idea what the answer would be; manufacturers are having to compete against imports from a country where workers are paid 50p an hour, which is why so many businesses are failing. It is a question with no obvious solution.
