With all the sad stories and posts at the moment I thought it would be nice to have a thread where people share some good things. Partly inspired by the post below regarding bad things at yards, what is the ONE thing at your yard which you think is fabulous?

I'll start with our muck heap. Its a massive covered pit with 4 covers that can be lifted individually as it gets filled, so no trying to fork wheelbarrows of muck up a muck heap, just tip it up and all done :) First time I've come across this and I think it's fabulous :D

PS: I think there was a thread like this done a few months ago so apologies if anyone feels like it's being repeated.
 
The single most wonderful fact I love about my yard is the fact that it is mine! What I say goes and its my own little piece of England. I have rented out a couple of boxes at the moment as mine are on a sabatical at a friends whilst I've got more important things to sort.
I don't answer to anyone and have made it my own haven. Brand new stabling,plenty of storage and healthy happy horses. I love it!
 
Your muck heap sounds amazing! Is it an old slurry pit??
Best thing about the yard I work on is (for me!) the little tractor and trialer we have for poo picking! I feel like jenson button! haha!
Best thing about where I keep my girls is that its just me, them and the sheep, lovely!!
 
Dont know if this counts but at home on my little yard the best thing I have is a very naughty young Springador dog who rips open bales of shavings for me, then loosens the block of shavings by "killing it", allowing me to make the bed while he charges off with the plastic wrapping.
By far the best little helper in our stables.
 
After a rubbish day at work, I love a chat with friends over a cuppa before getting India in! I also love the brillo floodlights in the school and the box of jaffa cakes on the side in the tack room!!

Officially I pay for DIY with one turnout OR bring in a day, but more often than not I'll get upto the yard and she'll have given him extra hay in the night, turned out, brought in, rugged up, given hay and sometimes she even skips out for us :) Last weekend she knew we were going to be late up as we had to drive to 2 hours and back to OHs parents for his birthday, so when we got there she had done everything, bar feed in case I wanted to ride :)

My new horse is also underweight, so she gives him her own bolt feed in the morning so I don't have to buy extra, she lends me her tack, she brings us cups of tea, and as I don't drive she'll pick me up from home and take me to the yard or to an event quite merrily :) and drop me off at home again.

Oh, and she lets me ride, and, once they're fit, hunt and compete her horses; and has offered to drive my horses to events and the vets. She's offered to lunge my young one in the day for me, and will hold my injured cripple when the vets come to take xrays and I can't get the day off work.

She is F A B U L O U S. :D

Best thing..YO. She's fab. I too, pay for assisted diy so YO feeds in morn and turns out. Almost everyday she will bring him in too, change his rugs and never leaves him without hay or water.
The day before yesterday she sat for nearly an hour in a small paddock as he wasnt supposed to sweat after vaccinations so she didnt want him running around! It was freezing and raining and she sat there on a bucket with him pushing her off!
I also love the fact the whole yard is undercover. You dont even have to go outside to the muck heap as its perched on a trailer through a door way! Marvellous idea!
And..the off road riding on the farm is just great - so much better than the roadwork I had to do previously.:)
 
Our mahooosive field! With only mine and my friends horses in it. Oh and the beach that's 15 mins hack down the road, and the moors which are 30 mins away!
 
YO and other liveries. It is the nicest, happiest, yard I've ever been on. No bitching, no back stabbing, we all have a coffee and a natter on a Saturday morning. YO is helpful and thoughtful, and all horses are treated as her own. I have absolutely no worries leaving my horse in her care when we go away/out all day etc. Believe me, that is VERY unusual for me to say, I used to be a competition groom and have annoyingly high standards. And my old girl is a precious little princess and has very specific needs. It's such a relief to find someone who understands that, and treats her the same as I would :)
 
My indoor barn. Its light airy and keep me dry while I muck out, groom, tack up. My horse is very happy and settled in his stable.
 
Generally, the peace and quiet. Specifically, the fact that, as a small yard, we don't have any bad vibes or spitefulness. Everyone tends to keep themselves to themselves, while still being pleasant.
 
The people - I've got some really great friends up there and we have shared a lot over the years. I also love the fact that my stables are covered over and even if the weather is foul we stay dry.
 
As seems to be a reoccuring theme on this thread, the best thing about my yard is it'sa mine and I am in charge, but we only have 2 other really lovely liveries with well behaved ponies (at least no naughter than mine) and every one gets on and helps each other out. we have 4 happy healthy equines who get on and 3 happy healthy owners who also get on, perfect.
 
The people. I love them all, we all do diffrent things and all help each other where we can be it bringing horses in or schooling advice. YO is fab aswell really helpful but not interfereing. Its so nice to find a nice yard after the nasty ones in the past. It works so well because the YO only lets nice people on the yard and she is a fab judge of charachter(sp?).
 
Well he's moving across the road at the weekend. I'm hoping he doesn't mind too much :o

It WAS 24/7/365 turnout. NEVER had to bring them in. NEVER got poached land. NO injuries cause they were out all the time and so not excited at being out :p
 
Only one thing??????

I love the fact that it's a family run yard.
I love the fact that the YO is a farmer who breeds Shires so is a mine of information.
The yard is quiet and calm.
We have 120 acres to ride without going near a road.
I also love the fact that it's only 5 minutes up the road.
 
The family that own it. If it wasn't for them when my mum and stepdad split up and sold the house where I kept my horse I don't think I could have afforded to have a horse, they have helped me thru some tough times and I am eternaly grateful to them, they are more like family and I've been there for 6 yrs now and hope to be there for many more
