So, at long last, my 6 yo 17.2 hh stallion entered into his first ever competition with my husband. I was certainly more excited than both of them and jumping up and down with excitement!
The show was at our own place so we did not need to worry about transport. They got off to a somewhat shaky start on the first day but it was only to be expected as my husband has been focusing on dressage for the last couple of years and has not entered a single SJ competition during this time. The horse was also mainly doing flatwork with me since we bought him as a very weak and gangly youngster in October last year. He behaved impeccably in the very very crowded warm up ring. They had some slight communication problems during both classes and ended with 8 penalties in 100 cm and 4 penalties in 115 cm (last fence
).
They were much more settled and relaxed on Sunday and came 2nd with nice clear rounds in both classes (100 cm and 110 cm). He stood like a statue during prize-givings while other (much older) horses were going berserk with all the noise and clapping. Ahagar certainly jumped fantastically and caused quite a stir among horsepeople here. Strangers and friends alike kept stopping me throughout the weekend to talk about how wonderful and handsome he is
. We even had some people offering to buy him!
I am really really proud of my "little" polar bear. I think, with some luck on our side, he will grow up to be a serious horse
Here is the video of the 110 cm class on Sunday:
