I thought i'd share a happy story with you.
on 21st Nov 2010, my gorgeous boy was kicked in the field and sustained a 6 inch fracture to his front leg (radius bone). He was very very poorly and spent 10 weeks cross tied at the vets. This is a picture of him with a special splint attached after the vets had to remove his big bandages as they gave him awful pressure sores.
On new years eve 2010 - the vets phoned to say his leg was infected so they had to risk taking all the dressings off and just hope his leg would hold up, and that he wouldn't try to lie down as that would have shattered the bones.
Against all the odds he kept pulling through. We had to wrap his head collars in cotton wool and vet wrap as wearing it all the time cross tied was giving him sores on his face and ears.
At the end of January he finally came home. We had another 4 months of box rest and almost a year of slow rehabilitation but bit by bit we got our old boy back, and the icing on the cake was when the vets said we should start bringing him back into light work again. At first he could only cope with a 10 min walk up the drive, but bit by bit he build his strenght back up again.
Today I entered a little W&T dressage comp at our new yard that moved to 3 weeks ago. We didn't practice as we don't school any more, but I just wanted to have a go since its n site. My gorgeous boy came 2nd with 63%. I spent the whole test trying not to cry and his other mum cried the whole way though. Today was the most special day ever and we are so proud of our gorgeous brave boy. He turns 19 in March and is the most amazing horse.
