This is probably a very stupid question, but what is "plating"?

Basically it's an MOT test for a lorry.

It's like an MOT for a lorry. It has to be done at a lorry testing station. (Not your local car MOT place)
If you google VOSA (vehicle and operators services agency) you should find your local one.

it's more stringent than an MOT though, and usually has to be booked about a month in advance.
