A horses age

My personal upper age limit for buying a horse is 15.

Ed is 13 was 12 when I bought him, I regard this a perfect age for someone who isn't capable of bringing a horse on,but who still wants a super fun horse, ie me

As to when I regard a horse as old..well I thnk the individual tells you - go to PG and look at Basher...what an animal!

MoM is twenty-two and still goes like a train - she's probably fitter than FB who is thirteen and acts like a three year old.

OH's Jiro is six, so we are hoping for many years of fun with him, once he is fit. I will almost certainly be introducing him to jumping (OH is not experienced enough for that) when the time is right.

I will be looking for a five year old-ish lightly backed Arab next, although I would be happy with one up to about nine because of their late maturity.

My share horse is 18. His owner has had him for around a year. If you saw him out hacking etc without knowing his age, you would think he was about 8!

I used to occasionally ride a 7 year old who had a LOT less go in him!

I think it varies from horse to horse as to when it is 'old'!

My mare the bay in my siggy is 22 next year and has just produced me a gorgeous little colt...but she was 18 year old and jumping XC quite like a train in the siggy pictures...she is wonderful and anyone looking at her would not put her at the age she is is...so how old pish pah....
