ok so firstly I am thinking of trading in my jump saddle to get one that is an obviously more jump cut saddle, mine is lovely but now I am in a position to also buy a dressage saddle I thought it made sense to get 2 more discipline specific saddles. So how much do you think I would get for an Exselle Debut in london tan, it has general wear and tear on it (the leather is in fab condition, no stretched girth straps on anything like that) and because it is in such a light colour quite alot of splash marks and varying coloration which might not be to everybodies taste..... it's this saddle but lighter in colour i think it cost around £700 new about 6 years ago

I was thinking about trading it in against a 'new' second hand jump saddle with my saddler or selling it privately borrowing one of my mother's saddles in the mean time, which way do you think I will get the most for it, what's the best route to go?...

and finally recommendations for a lightweight but v jump cut jump saddle for a 16.2 narrow/med tb

thanks

Sorry don;t know how much for your saddle, unfortunately the colour will knock some ££ off it

What budget are you looking at for the new saddle? I recommend Barnsby saddles, as their jump saddles are lovely! May also be worth trying the Excelle Integra if the Excelle suited before? Equipe saddles are fantastic too

Single flap may help with the forward cut-ness

Not sure how much for your old one, maybe £400? In terms of colour I wouldnt worry to much, I bought one that everyone liked to call green with blue spots, It was originally a pale brown from Butet I think!!
In terms of how to sell I would see what you want to buy and who sells them and what deals they do, not much help but some will only exchange brands they sell.

In terms of new ones, I like Prestige, just not the best fit for my legs, and when Tink was 16.2 narrow TB the only saddle that fitted her was a Jaguar mono flap event saddle. Still sitting in my tack room?! Not the most comfortable saddle in the world but did the job and fitted us both!!

I find it hard to get a good fit on me as I have a long thigh and relatively short calf so feel a bit on my Debut like when I'm riding short I'm rising really high if that makes sense, seems like a lot of me is in the air!

Kat aren't the Barnsbys pretty similar shape to my Debut?.... would like to go for something with a lot more knee roll and maybe thigh blocks....hhhmmmm maybe the integra.... I did like the look of it when I tried out my debut....

I've been through lots of saddles, although never headed down the Amerigo, Devoucoux, butet path

I am now addicted to monoflap saddles and cannot abide having the lumps of the girth buckles digging in under the flaps. This does kind of limited the choice somewhat!

One horse loves his WOW, but they are not everyone's cup of tea, and I think the could do more to help my lower leg stability (however he is a weird shape and nothing else will fit). That said I've cleared 4ft6" in it so cannot be that bad!!

ahhh didn't think about that with the monos would need to get a new stud girth wouldn't i?... hhhmmm more expense.....trying to do it on a small budget, and get good second hand saddles....will speak to my saddler see what he has in stock...

Have you tried saddlesdirect.com or co.uk? Good second hand saddles, good prices. You can trial their saddles for 3 days.
At the end of the day it just boils down to what both you and your horse like

If you like/want big blocks and thigh block then look at the Albion K2, wasnt a saddle I ever thought I would get on with as prefer a flat mono type saddle but have the K2 for one of mine and it is perfect for us as a combination.

Also a fan of Barnsby and have a Milton Original, which is very flat with little in the way blocks, as different as could be from the K2 but is spot on for the horse it is for and me.

As others have said it really does depend on the horse/rider combination.

I love my Albion K2 and it has nice big knee/thigh rolls so really keeps you in place! However I would always say that the best thing to do when thinking about new saddles is to ride in a few. I know so many people who have bought a specific type on either name or recommendation and then found that it is not ideal for either the horses shape or the riders as every combination is different! When I got my albion I went to Horsesense in Solihull and literally rode in every single brand of jump saddle they had in the shop (and that was about 10!). I had my heart set on a jaguar and although it fit the horse it just didnt fit me - the same went for several others. I think when you are talking about the sort of money you need to spend on a saddle it is worth spending some time to get your perfect match - good luck

yeah I have tried the albion K2 my mother has one and I did really like the big blocks BUT I don't like the weight of it, my debut is very light and I don't want a big heavy saddle. Hacked out with my instructor on his Amerigo and it was gorgeoud though sadly out of my budget I think!

Word of warning.. I was told to be careful with Albions and TB's, apparently albions are better for bigger built horses as they are quite chunky and can roll around a bit on Tb's.
It all depends on the horse of course, just be wary.

I got my Amerigo Pinerolo off of ebay for £800 having tried one of the same size on from a friend. It is really lovely!!!

I see someone above has said the Jeffries Elite. No criticism as it is a lovely saddle, and I don't know how tall you are but I tried it and it was no-where near forward cut enough for me, it seemed quite straight for a jump saddle. But, I am 6ft and my Amerigo is 18" to accommodate my legs, so that may not apply to you lol!!

I also loved my Stubben MF Spezial, but when horse got fitter it no longer fitted him so had to go. Really lovely secure and comfy saddle though.

I love my ideal springbok - having tried both that and the kontact on the same horse at the same time, I can reliably inform you they are an identical feel to ride in, but the ideal is about £500 cheaper!!
