Can anyone please give me a rough price guide for a horse that is currently lame & unsound, ridden career possibly over, sweet natured, 7 yrs old, TB mare??
as a companion- not much. I wouldn't have thought "horse" size companions are in much demand (higher running cost than pony). Could she be sold as a broodmare?
Zero if proven prior to accidental injury so codlbe broodmare- but not worth breeding from if unproven.
Otherwise Minus £'sss as is a liability, not an asset.
So many unsound horses looking for rest homes, or turn away for at least a year to see if they become at least field sound.
I would agree with £0 - you can get a companion for free from the many rescue centres and there are way more companions available than homes. Are you looking to get rid or acquire?
Nothing at all unless special in the breeding lines/conformation department. But would it be fair to breed from a lame horse, all the extra weight would make lameness more painful.
Maybe another option would be fairer than passing on a liability
And was the tendon an accident or did she just 'go' lame as this is a definate no-no to breed from. Outcome probably be offspring that goes lame.
TBH wouldn't pay for a companion unless prognosis from your vet is that after a year turned away she may become sound enough to be ridden faster than a walk, then maybe £500 'meat money', but I doubt anyone would want to buy her at this stage.
Tricky really. Can you not keep her yourself and turn her away for a year or so?
