Now I know there is a currency difference here but it doesn't really make a whole lot of difference; horses tend to be the same in $'s as they are in £'s so forget about the currency symbol when answering.

I have this little guy. He is a Registered Black Purebred Canadien Horse. He is by the top bloodlines in this breed society and I have been trying to find comparable youngsters to try to price him but I haven't been able to find ones with such high calibre bloodlines.....however once I finally get my butt into gear and compose the advert for him (sometimes this takes me a month or so to get round to) I want to sell fairly quickly and can't be bothered with timewasters for a young horse like this.

Anyway the figure for the Canadiens that I have found advertised range from about $2,500 for a reg. chestnut one and seem to go up to around $5,500 for a reg. black.

Now I am not greatly fussed about what I get for him but I don't want to underprice him too much as you know how that can sometimes put people off a little.

He is 11 months old, registered black, is microchipped and vaccinated, good with farrier and vet etc. He's a bit of a bolshy little beggar but is also quite affectionate. He stands about 14.1hh at the moment and will likely make 15.2hh (average size). He's a nice little horse but I am not the slightest bit interested in him and think he should go sooner rather than later.

So what figure would you advertise him at please? Here's a rubbishy photo of him taken this morning....obviously I certainly wouldn't be using this photo in his advert LOL!!

Doesn't look very black to me

As for pricing, I have no idea, don't have a clue about that breed, as for what is in front of me I would say way less than what you have mentioned!

I completely agree with you to be honest; I wouldn't pay for him...anything, LOL!! I guess because he is registered black, which is what they all want apparently, this should keep his price higher. Being registered black has nothing to do with sunbleaching though - it's purely to do with the real colour...and his is black.

Canadiens are on the rare breed list. Not my cup of tea at all - but hey I was given him in exchange for 3 months board so I'm not complaining.

This is a piccy of him a couple of months ago when I got him. Warrior; he does look somewhat cute....but he is the most dim horse I've ever come across

You could get in touch with one of the Canadian breeders and sound them out surepticiously. Some people love them (whatever

) but I don't think there's a very big market outside of the real fans, the "people who want a black horsie" group or maybe driving people, since they don't tend to excel at any of the other disciplines. Some people seem to want to make them dressage horses but they generally only want to trot very fast and there's no riding class for that. Plus, the breed standard does seem to be "thick as two planks", or at least all the ones I've met and heard about seem that way. (Maybe something to do with the incredibly small gene pool.) After all they're made to be tough not nice. But at least most of them are relatively "drafty" and quiet.

But they're black and they're rare and they're hairy and that floats some people'e boats.

Hmmm . . . somewhere in the $1500-$2000 range, maybe? The two Canadians I know of that sold recently were both much older, broke and showing, and brought around $5k.

Yep I would totally agree with you there - dim seems to be a pre-requisite of this breed.

He is a very thick horse and he does nothing for me either, but then I'm not into that kind of horse.

I've done a little more research and from what I am finding, same age, work etc it seems that if I was to advertise him at $2,500 he would be cheaper than the others I've found for sale, so will try him at that and see what happens.

Thanks everyone.
