Right, owing to the interest in Dotty from the pic I posted yesterday, I would really appreciate some honest answers from you people as to what you think she is worth if that's ok.

Basic details: she's by Bazaars Texas, a superb coloured jumper ( a grandson of Dallas,) who is himself (BT) out of an eventing almost TB mare, so performance on both sides there. Dotty is out of a Mandalus (TB, reknown for jumpers) mare who is out of a race winner that also produced winners, so ability on that side too. Floss, D's mum, has already produced an Advance dressage horse (with the points, not just doing it at home!) a show horse, a baby eventer and this year, the colt she has produced is being retained by the stud as their future sport stallion, all being well, so is producing the goods that go on and 'do'. With that parentage she shouldn't just be a pretty face and show, but she could go on and compete properly given the right circumstances.

So, my question is, what on earth do I put as a benchmark please?

This is her yesterday (in spite of camera date being wrong!)

Is she 3 now (sorry can't remember) and what height will she mature to? Does she have an easy temprement?
If 3 and maturing to 16.1-16.3 I think you could be looking around the 3-3.5K mark

Not sure about benchmark, but just wanted to say that she looks absolutely gorgeous, and if I didn't have too many horses already (and one, we hope, on the way) I'd be a very interested party! Good luck with the sale.

Love your new avatar!

She hasn't been to any parties (although was entered at a couple of county shows as a yearling but when the time came she was going through a giraffe stage so she didn't go in the end, no point if they're not looking their best), only travelling she's done has been to and back from stud with her mum but she loads well into our 505. She has quite a laid back temperment and is very kind, can't think of one person who she has nipped and she doesn't do kicking of any type! is good with farrier, fully registered and vaccinated upto date. Typically youngster, she can be spooky with anything new but it's over and done with very quickly but she's a nice person to handle and be with although she has had very little other than basic manners - hasn't had a rug on, that sort of thing, I like my babies to be horses once basic manners are instilled, then leave them to grow at their own speed.

Also, I expect her to be at least 16.1, probably more.

I think with youngters it is really tough and a lot will depend on finding the person that wants just that type, but wants a youngster. Her worth is still all Potential and that is so hard to value. I think if you put her up at £3.5k you would sell her, it just might take time to find the right person, especially at this time of year.

Good luck she looks a super sort.

As she stands I would say around £2.5k as theres that *potential* over her head - not necessarily going to do the job shes bought for etc - but thats with everything I guess.

Does she have big movement? have you schooled her over a fence?

I tell you now I would offer you the above.....because I know she is just what my parents want for me.

Well, £25 wasn't exactly what I was thinking about but if that's all you're going to offer.........................!!

I'd be surprised if she doesn't do a nice test, she finds moving effortless when you watch her in the field as that pic shows too and her dam already has an Advanced horse under her belt to name but one!

At least 3K! I certainly wouldn't let her go for anything less than that - IMHO that would be robbery! I'd advertise her for £3,750 if she were mine - well tbh, I would probably keep her

PMSL! You know me too well I think!

The more I think about it the more I like the idea of putting her out on loan/lease, something like that to have a competitive career, whatever that might involve and then have her back when she's 10/12 to breed from, but don't know whether that is feasible - tell me it's not then I can put it from my mind!!

I think that is a very feasible option! She's a cracking little mare - broodmare in the making. With comp. exp. under her belt and a foal by her side, she'd grade VERY well too!

Oh dear, it looks like this post is snowballing away now - what have I started?!
shocked.gif

Glad to know I wasn't having a senior moment back then though!

Righto, another option if you'll bear with me! - As you all know, I'm not a believer in starting and working a horse too young (my only reservation about the 4 yr old class of BYEH which I've mentioned before) and she is only 3 next year so still plenty of time to go. I have for some time been tossing up whether to have her broken then put her in foal next year to a nice Sports Pony stallion (haven't made up my mind yet, suggestions please - then again, better not, never know where that will take me! ) then after weaning, she will be old enough to go straight into work ready for the 5 year old classes.
Does that sound feasible or a bloody stupid idea? The plus for that is she will have already had a foal so that when she comes back at possibly 12, her breeding status shouldn't be a problem and there will also, God willing, be a youngster of hers ready to go to work which will hopefully be a good advert for any future youngsters. (Anyone would think I was only 20 instead of nearing 60 the way I'm going on about the future!
blush.gif
) The downside if there is one is that she will be nearing five before she gets to do anything but if she is going to be a biggish girl, I don't think personally, that that will do her any harm cos she will have had all that extra time to develop and strengthen up.

Right, fire those bullets!!

No not mad at all, a good idea i reckon.
What about back her at 3, see how she matures this winter and how she takes to being under saddle. If its looking like she need more time then pop her in foal (you can keep working her through the early months if you wish). If she is going great guns then maybe consider 4yo classes or some county showing and put in foal as a 4yo.

Pat, I think that is a fabulous idea - very sensible! 2 things - she can be ridden whilst pregnant (not for too long obviously), but it will be good for her and 2) once she's foaled she can be shown in-hand with the baby. I have a question though - why a Sports Pony stallion - I can understand with Twigs, as she's only 15.2hh, but Dot's will mature to be bigger..................

Also, this is on Horsequest for £4,250
